Q: How can I apply for a job at G4S?

Q: Can I apply to G4S in person?

Q: What is the application process for G4S jobs?
A: After you complete an online application with G4S you can expect a notification via email confirming that your application for one of our jobs is submitted and under review. For the next step you can expect telephone, email, and/or text message communications from our team, and you may receive an invitation to complete a telephone screening or an in-person interview.

Q: I want to find out where I am in the process, how do I do this?
A: We are unable to comment on individual queries regarding process. You will need to direct these types of queries to the hiring manager via the communication channels they provide to you. e.g. email, phone etc.

Q: How do I know if I have been selected for an interview or an assessment?
A: If you have been selected for an interview or assessment then the hiring manager will send you an email.

Q: Why do you need so much information about me?
A: G4S is the world’s largest security solutions business and operates under high levels of security. We require this level of information from you to ensure all candidates meet our minimum employment requirements.

Q: I have been rejected for a role almost immediately, why?
A: If you are rejected from a role straight away it means that you did not meet the minimum requirements for this specific role. As this is part of the position criteria we are unable to reset this for you.

Q: Once I have applied for a job what happens next?
A: The hiring manager who is responsible for the vacancy will be in touch with you via email or telephone.

Q: When will the hiring manager be in contact with me?
A: Unfortunately, due to the amount of applications received for each role, we are unable to give specific timescales. The hiring manager will be in contact with you in due course.

Q: How long does the hiring and on-boarding process at G4S take?
A: The Hiring Process from start to finish can vary in length depending on the role and any licensing processes that might apply. G4S endeavours to expedite the hiring process as fast as possible. If you are successful, your line manager will provide details of the onboarding process which will vary in duration depending on your job role.

Q: Do I need to take a pre-employment drug test?
A: G4S requires drug testing as a condition of employment for some roles and in some countries.

Q: How long does it take to become a G4S Security Guard?
A: G4S provides training for many of our roles. For Security Officers we must also provide appropriate licensing. Depending on where you wish to work, our teams will be able to advise you on how quickly you can expect your guard license to clear, and when you can expect to begin working in your security.

Q: How long does it take to become a G4S prison officer?
A: The role of Prison Custody Officer is subject to a checkable history and the strict vetting standards set by G4S, and His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. You must be eligible to work in the UK and you will need to provide full details of your employment and education history as part of the security screening process for this role. Delays in submitting your paperwork will prolong the vetting process which can take up to 12 weeks depending on your circumstances.

Q: How long does it take to become a G4S cash in transit driver?
A: The pre-employment screening process will vary in length depending on a person's work and education history and how much supporting evidence they have available to comply with the screening standards. Once successfully completed, you may be offered a role as a cash in transit driver (subject to obtaining an SIA licence) and a start date arranged. Once your employment has started, you will attend a 3-day induction and following the induction an application for an SIA licence will need to be submitted. Once the SIA licence is received, further training continues alongside a competent driver for a period of approximately 8 weeks before being signed off as competent.

Q: Do I need to purchase my G4S uniform?
A: G4S provides your uniform to you. During your new hire orientation, your uniform measurements will be taken, and uniform items are issued to you. The amount of items issued depends on the role and whether you are working full time or part time.

Q: What types of jobs are available at G4S?
A: G4S employees 800,000 employees worldwide and so our career opportunities are almost limitless. We offer a wide variety of jobs across different sectors from mining to retail, aviation to banking and more. Some of the main types of jobs available are in:

  • Security Services with roles ranging from traditional guarding to specialised security solutions and technology.
  • Care and Justice Services including Prison Officers, Detention Officers, Secure Care Officers and rehabilitation officers.
  • Patient Transport Services including registered nurses, paramedics and sexual assault nurse examiners and ambulance drivers.
  • Cash Solutions where our people handle the cash management services for major financial institutions and retailers and we offer roles such as cash drivers and cash processors.
  • Facilities Management including roles in cleaning, catering and maintenance.
  • Technology, whether it’s installing and maintaining security systems, developing software for security applications, or protecting against cyber threats.

 

Q: Do I need a license to work as a Security Guard?
A: Many countries license those in security guard jobs, and some cities within them do too. There are separate permits to carry a gun for armed security jobs in some countries, however these are not needed for unarmed security jobs. Once you apply with G4S, our team will explain the licensing process and work with you to find the best jobs in security for you.

Q: If a license is needed do I need to obtain one before I apply to be a Security Guard at G4S?
A: You do not need to have a security license up front in order to apply for security guard jobs at G4S. Once you have applied, our team will explain the licensing process and advise you on the most cost and time efficient method of obtaining a license.

Q: What does a day in the life of a G4S Security Guard look like?
A: With approximately 800,000 people globally, we have many different typical days depending on the security job. G4S employees act as the eyes and ears of our clients and facilitate day to day public interactions in a safe and secure manner. Whether you are working on site security at lobby of a landmark high rise building, working in a local shopping centre, access control in a major metropolitan medical centre, campus safety, or working at an industrial facility, G4S commits to security guard training so all of our people can provide quality services to our customers, day or night.

Q: Do I have to pass a Criminal Background Check to become a Security Guard?
A: When you apply for security jobs in any country you can expect to have at least some background checks carried out before you are approved for a security guard license. Background checks that are run when you apply for security guard jobs generally include fingerprint and criminal record checks.

Q: How much will I get paid as a Security Guard?
A: Pay for security guard jobs can vary by location, assignment, and level of experience. G4S prides itself on providing competitive wages in each market we serve.

Q: What driving licence do I need to work as a Cash in Transit Driver?
A: G4S Cash Solutions operates with different vehicle types with differing licensing requirements. If a certain driving licence type is required, this will be stipulated on the job advert, but most driving roles require a B licence (manual) only.

Q: Do I need an SIA licence to apply for a role as a Cash in Transit (CiT) Driver?
A: There is no requirement for you to currently hold a CIT SIA licence to apply for a role as a Driver with G4S Cash Solutions but if you are successful in your application, one will need to be obtained before you can be deployed on operational duties. The cost to obtain the licence is covered by the company but if you leave employment during the three-year term of the Licence, the Company requires that the individual reimburses part of the licence fee according to the proportion of the licence period which is unexpired.

Q: How much will I get paid as a Cash in Transit (CiT) Driver?

A: Pay for Cash in Transit Driver jobs can vary by location, assignment, and level of experience. G4S prides itself on providing competitive wages in each market we serve. Currently overtime opportunities are available to enhance earning potential but overtime is not guaranteed.

Q: How soon after I’m hired at G4S am I able to apply for promotion opportunities?
A: We encourage our employees to work with their managers to develop an individual guide to identify their career goals and map out a plan for working toward that goal. Activities may include seeking on-the-job training, classroom/online training at G4S, self-development, and outside activities that will enhance skills and experience to prepare the employee to take the next career step.
