Salary: £29,000 per annum

Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.

 

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

 

An excellent opportunity has become available to join part of the Security Team as an Operational Support Officer to control the movement, egress and access of all personnel to the Centre to maintain security and safety.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate and control the movement of staff, trainees and visitors around the premises to ensure they arrive at the correct destination safely and securely and in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Issue, receive and record equipment allocated to staff as they come on and go off duty to maintain records of staff on site and equipment issued.
  • Screen all staff, vehicles, occupants of vehicles, visitors, trainees and property on access or egress, to ensure the security of the Centre is maintained.
  • Monitor and respond to situations as they arise using the appropriate equipment to ensure that situations are dealt with promptly and the appropriate action/response is effected.
  • Receive and greet internal and external visitors during evenings and weekends to ensure they receive a suitable welcome and are dealt with promptly.
  • Answer and screen internal and external telephone calls during evenings and weekends, to ensure they are directed to the correct point of contact or messages are taken and passed on to the appropriate person for action or response.
  • Monitor and operate CCTV cameras and radio network in line with relevant procedures to maintain the Centre’s security.


The Ideal Candidate:

No previous experience is necessary however knowledge of the Centre’s policies and procedures would be an advantage.
