Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. 

HMP Rye Hill is a category 'B' training prison situated in the village of Willoughby, near Rugby in Warwickshire, holding approximately 664 sentenced male adults.

We now have an opportunity for a Lead Vocational Tutor to join our team at HMP Rye Hill.

The successful candidate will lead our vocational instructors in the delivery of training as allocated, ensuring timescales, costs and qualified levels are maintained

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support planning of vocational training workshops’ delivery ensuring key targets are achieved
  • Develop and maintain quality procedures to ensure training delivery is of a high standard
  • Coach and support staff to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, including security instructions, and contractual requirements are met
  • Oversee the management of prisoner discipline so that disruption of teaching and learning is prevented
  • Monitor the safe and secure operation of workshop activities in accordance with standard procedures
  • Monitor and maintain the training delivery to ensure regimes figures are met
  • Liaise with external customers, resolving queries and issues, to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Assist with sourcing the supply of rewarding and profitable work to guarantee the occupation of the relevant number of regime hours each week in line with the contract
  • Plan, assess and supervise prisoners undertaking relevant, recognised qualifications to ensure achievement
  • Assist in the accurate costing of relevant projects to ensure financial parameters are met and waste is minimised
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role

  • Teaching Qualification
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of working in a custodial environment
  • Assessor / Verifier Qualification
