The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. We aim to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.
Working within the OMU team at HMP Five Wells, this position will ensure the effective implementation, alongside the OMU Case Admin First Line Managers, of the Offender management structures.
The Senior Case Administrator will also ensure that sentences are calculated in accordance with PSI 03.2015 and that un-sentenced offenders are lawfully remanded. You will ensure all documents and IT systems are utilised in readiness and to support the release process of an offender.
As part of the role, you will be the main point of contact for staff, ex-offenders, Community Offender Managers and other external agencies within the Community.
Some of the Key Responsibilities are:
  • Ensure offender sentences are accurately calculated, checked and approved in line with relevant Sentence Calculation PSIs.
  • Ensure offenders are lawfully held, produced to court as required, and that all pre-release and transfer checks and paperwork are completed.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases, filing systems and reports, ensuring information is provided within required timescales.
  • Coordinate daily tasks within the team, ensuring work is allocated fairly and completed effectively.
  • Act as the main point of contact for departmental communications, including managing the OMU functional mailbox.
  • Organise meetings, prepare paperwork, record minutes and monitor actions.
  • Support, mentor and provide guidance to new starters and Case Administrators, working with the OMU Manager to improve processes and performance.
  • Oversee the Parole Board conference room and electronic diary, and provide cover for other essential OMU administration duties when required.
You will have administration and IT experience with excellent communication and organisational skills. You will have a can do attitude, along with an attention to detail. You will work collaboratively and openly whilst being a key member of the team.
You must have experience of working within a multifunctional and demanding environment. You will be a dynamic and engaging individual with a good sense of humour, who shares our ethics and values and is eager to support the Department's successful delivery.
It would be advantageous to have experience in custody work including sentence calculations and practical knowledge of OMU case administration; however, you will attend and be required to complete relevant training.
If you join us, you can be sure that you'll find a secure, friendly and professional working environment and be given all the support, training and encouragement you need to build and develop a successful career with us.
