Working Hours: Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week, Mon - Fri
Location: Hybrid - Home based with travel required to Oxford, OX3 7LE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Commercial Manager to join our commercial team.
This role is home based with travel required to Oxford at least 2 times per week. The successful candidate must be located within a commutable distance to Oxford.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will drive commercial delivery within the operational area of responsibility ensuring that tight commercial management is in place across a number of operational contracts on a large strategic contract.
Responsibilities
- Deliver value added activities such as developing contract-supporting documents and promoting commercial awareness
- Lead on the development and management of contract specific risk registers and any dispute management with suppliers and customers.
- Provide assurances to the business that the commercial/contractual imperatives on the contract are being adhered to and that risks are being appropriately mitigated.
- Advise on, and review the ongoing performance of suppliers to commercial terms at account and business level in collaboration with the Regional procurement function.
- Lead the commercial position on material contractual disputes, working closely with the legal and operational team, laying out the recommended commercial strategy, leading the execution of the commercial plan and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders within given boundaries.
- Identify, develop and support organic growth and profit improvement initiatives.
- Own the commercial solution with regards to project delivery, ensuring that appropriate contractual arrangements are in place and back to back both upwards to clients and down through the supply chain.
- Prepare supporting materials for regular contract reviews and attend executive performance meetings to support the Operational Directors.
- Lead review and negotiation of client contracts, variations and change notices, including coordinating input from relevant stakeholder colleagues and the in-house legal team on more complex or substantial matters.
- Ensure that the commercial terms are well understood and pricing strategies are in place for dealing with risks and converting entitlements.
- Manage the production of commercial cost models and commercial responses.
- Coordinate each contract’s commercial responses and ensure these are issued in accordance with contractual timeframes and all matters closed off within contract specific frameworks.
- Ensure clear commercial strategy is in place for managing the Benchmarking and Market Testing exercises of a contract.
- To lead client negotiations and obtain internal sign-off to achieve the resolution and closure of Benchmarking exercises within contractually specified timeframes.
The Ideal Candidate:
Essential
- Degree level or equivalent demonstrable commercial technical knowledge and experience.
- Proven ability to successfully negotiate on high “value at stake” issues.
- A strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness, excellent interpersonal awareness and influencing skills and a target/profit driven attitude with a focus on delivering results.
- Managing and developing direct reports.
- Ability to deliver in a fast pace and demanding environment.
Desirable
- Legal knowledge with PFI contract forms.
- Clear understanding of key issues in outsourcing specific to the FM market.
- Strong FM or construction background.
- Education and Health Sector Experience.
- Experience in dealing with construction defects.
- Understanding and working knowledge of Lifecycle funds.
- Understanding of PFI Contract Payment Mechanisms.
