Salary £28,245.00 per annum 

Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week, generally Monday-Friday but some weekend and evening work will be required)

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

 

We now have an opportunity for a Print and Sign Instructor to join our team at HMP Parc, the main duties of this role will be to co-ordinate workshop activities in line with regime requirements whilst maintaining the security of the prison.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 1. REGIMES

  • Ensure the workshop is set up, where practicable to replicate a commercial print and sign workshop in the community. This should include stock control, order processing, customer liaison, product development, quality control etc.
  • Process Customer orders in a professional, efficient and timely manner and organise workflow to meet customer deadlines.
  • Ensure income targets are met or exceeded and operating costs are controlled and managed.
  • Promote the Print/Sublimation work in a positive manner both internally and externally and assist with raising its profile throughout the prison, local and business communities
  • Deliver high quality training to prisoners to help them fully undertake their job role and adapting your delivery style to meet the needs of the individual learners.
  • Contribute to the Self Assessment Report and process as required.
  • Liaise with the RAU to ensure your workshop role is maintained to agreed profile at all times, maximising employment spaces and contributing to the Establishments ‘Purposeful Activity’ KPT
  • Ensure all local and national policies relevant to Industries are implemented and adhered to at all times.
  • Work closely with other departments e.g. Learning & Skills, Resettlement, Offender Management and Interventions as required to ensure prisoners’ needs are met.
  • Ensure all Prison paperwork is completed accurately, neatly and by required deadlines, to include regime monitoring, prisoner pay, interruptions, action plans etc. and ensure pay is input onto CMS by required deadlines.
  • Develop and challenge prisoners working under your supervision to achieve targets set and instill a good ‘work ethic’ to improve their employability upon release.
  • Challenge and eliminate unlawful discrimination, promote equality of opportunity and promote good working relationships between people of different groups and actively support and promote diversity in your area of work.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge in the Printing and Sublimation Industry, attending any designated training identified and any internal mandatory training as required.
  • Ensure all prisoners are searched out of the workshop after each work session and any other interruptions.
  • Any other reasonable task as required.

 

2. SECURITY

  • Maintain the security of your workshop/area at all times reporting any concerns immediately to your line manager and the Security Department and through the MIR system.
  • Be accountable for and manage all tools used in your workshop/area using correct procedures for tool cabinets, tally systems, tool allocation, disposal and inventories etc following set procedures as per the Local Security Strategy.
  • Ensure the Industries and Security tool check sheet is completed after every work session AM and PM and keep records for audit purposes.

 

3. HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Ensure all Health & Safety legislation pertinent to your workshop/area is implemented and adhered to at all times. Review 6 monthly and update as necessary
  • Ensure all new prisoners allocated to your workshop/area receive the workshop induction and that they understand and comply with it at all times.
  • Record all training delivered on the F2055c inmate training record
  • Ensure all Health & Safety signage is displayed as required.
  • Ensure prisoners wear correct PPE as required and inspect regularly for wear and tear and damage. Replace as necessary.
  • Review and update the workshop risk assessments, Safe Systems of work and COSHH assessments annually or when undertaking new work.
  • Impose the ‘No vaping’ policy and challenge those prisoners abusing it through the IEP process.
  • Ensure your workshop/work area is clean and tidy, keeping walkways and fire exits free from obstructions.
  • Ensure colour coded cleaning equipment is used and the Workshop cleaning schedule is completed daily and kept for audit purposes.
  • Liaise regularly with Facilities Management ensuring where required, all equipment is serviced and maintained and records kept for audit purposes.
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety measures introduced due to Coronavirus Covid-19 including signage, social distancing, hand sanitising and washing

Experience:

Demonstrate current Health & Safety knowledge and compliance.

Experience or an interest in work-based learning is essential.

Experience in maintaining good customer relationships is essential.

Experience of working in a busy Print / Digital Print business with a sound working knowledge of the environment

Experience in production planning

Experience in a supervisory capacity is desirable

Essential Skills

 

         Formal Education:

  • Educated to at least GCSE level or similar
  • Excellent Communication and IT  skills.

    Technical Education:
  • To be efficient in the processes and procedures of Digital Print and Sign Manufacture
  • Proficient in electronic print programmes such as Adobe illustrator, CS5 or earlier, Adobe photoshop CS5 or earlier, Adobe in Design CS5 or earlier, Quark Express V8 or earlier or similar, Coral Draw
  • Knowledge or experience in sublimation and sign manufacturing

 

Desirable Skills

  • EAT level 3, PTLLS or ET01 or willingness to work towards
