The Prison is the UK’s first purpose-built, new resettlement Prison. After opening in 2022 it is a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future and has become an integral part of the local community.
G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.
Reporting to the Head of Facilities Management, we are looking for full time Mechanical Maintenance Operative/Plumber to join our FM team at HMP Five Wells. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the plumbing and maintenance of the site infrastructure along with carrying out the normal day to day Planned Maintenance (PM) programme of works.
Key Responsibilities of this role
- Responsible for any correction work/plumbing emergency work that may arise due to faults or ongoing maintenance of plumbing systems to prevent emergencies arising.
- Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures and plumbing systems equipment.
- Receive and complete work orders.
- Maintain accurate records in line with policy and health and safety on materials and labour used.
- Ensure that all equipment is in a safe operating condition by frequent testing of plumbing systems to identify leaks and other faults.
- Complete and close CMMS and PM work orders appropriately.
- Work with sub contactors that attend site ensuring they are properly supervised at all times and carts any work out appropriately.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the Senior Lead Engineer/ Head of FM.
- Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

The Ideal Candidate:
You will possess strong organisational and communication skills, have an understanding of an FM maintenance environment and will be dedicated to providing a high quality service. You must be fully qualified within a mechanical engineer discipline (City & Guilds / Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Craft Studies or equivalent) and have experience of Industrial / Plumbing installations.
The following are desirable but not essential Specialists in HVAC systems, gas systems /equipment maintenance. (Gas Safe qualified), A/C repairs & maintenance, Industrial plumbing qualification, Legionella & WRAS Controls and regulations and experience of BMS systems.
