After opening in 2022 it is a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future and has become an integral part of the local community.

 

G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.

 

We are looking for dedicated First Line Manager (FLM) to join our Gatehouse team.  You may already have FLM experience within a custodial environment and are seeking a new challenge or you may currently hold the position of Prison (Custody) Officer and are ready for the next step in your career.  You will be responsible for the efficient and effective day to day running of the operations; managing the operational delivery of the Gate / Vehicle gate and Main entrance reception areas of the prison in compliance with all Local and National Security policies and procedures, and providing a secure and safe environment in which prisoners receive all statutory rights in line with contractual obligations. Your role will be to manage the effective deployment of staff to ensure the security of the prison and to meet operational requirements.

 

Most importantly your role will be to provide professional advice, guidance and support to operational staff in order to maintain good order and discipline of the establishment. The FLM role is a crucial role for coaching, mentoring and developing staff whilst offering hands-on support and motivation.

 

Some of the key responsibilities are;

  • Coach and support staff to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures including security instructions and contractual requirements are met including EDR’s and managing sickness absence.
  • Ensure all operational instructions and emergency procedures are adhered to in line with policy.
  • Monitor and manage the secure movement processes of all Prisoners, Staff, Vehicles and Contractors both internally and externally using CCTV monitoring systems, in an effective manner so as to maintain security at all times.
  • Manage the Communications Control Room to ensure the daily regime requirements of the establishment are effectively coordinated and the Communication lines with staff are maintained ensuring that correct processes and procedures are followed.
  • Monitor and maintain control of all aspects of Gate / Vehicle gate and Control Room routines in order to meet contractual and legal requirements, ensuring all incidents are reported and managed correctly through the Control Room and documentation is completed accurately.
  • Manage/ Plan and coordinate the deployment of pool cars, Drivers and taxi’s for prisoner escorts.
  • Manage and coordinate the maintenance service schedules and any vehicle damage processes in compliance with G4s Fleet services.
  • Liaise with the Staff detail office to manage the deployment of Gate / Comms staff on a daily basis.
  • Manage the Incoming and Outgoing Parcels processes ensuring all Parcels are recorded and auditable processes are followed.
  • Coordinate all security and control measures within the prison ensuring they are compliant with local security instructions and that all staff are aware of their responsibilities so that the security of the prison is maintained.
  • Ensure all Security search procedures are delivered as per local instructions for all Staff / Vehicles and Visitors entering the establishment.
  • Manage and complete Quality Assurance processes within the function ensuring correct security processes and procedures are maintained.
  • Complete Final Discharge Identification checks on prisoners being released from custody upon completion of their sentence.
  • Manage the deployment of staff to maintain the effective Security of the External perimeter of the prison
  • Manage the completion of all Gate and Control Room Logs and documentation to maintain audit compliance.
  • Attend meetings when required to do so representing the Operations function for Gate / Control Room.

You must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral, alongside good negotiation and influencing skills and a high level of resilience.
