Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

We now have an opportunity for a Diversity and Inclusion Officer to join our team at HMP Parc.

The successful candidate will supervise and support prisoners, ensuring all services are provided to a high standard and that security and control are maintained at all times, adhering to local and national policies.  The specific duty of the job holder is to ensure that arrangements are in place so that Diversity and Inclusion are valued, promoted and respected.  You will ensure that prisoners are not discriminated against on the basis of protected characteristics and the equality act and are not subject to abusive or insulting language/behaviour

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.
  • Ensure all matters related to Diversity & Inclusion are recorded and arrangements are put in place where required
  • Interview prisoners to investigate DIRF’s and complete initial findings and issue return letter using the PLI
  • Support the management to co-ordinate work on the Prison’s Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan
  • Raise concerns to Line Manager for those prisoners who are identified as requiring specialist equipment via an assessment from social services
  • Ensure all work completed is compliant and accurate and reported correctly
  • Prisoners with protected characteristics are flagged for a meeting to discuss needs, including foreign national prisoners
  • Utilise EDI peers, recruit and retain
  • Assist in developing D&I action plans, training , promotion of awareness with prisoners and staff
  • Act as a central source of information on legislation, policies and D&I topics
  • Assist the SMT lead to Chair focus groups for diversity stands.
  • Complete equality audits and record findings to present to SMT
  • Coordinate data collection, analysis and produce the monthly D&I report
  • Organise and assist in the prison D&I promotional events
  • Engage with prisoners who have a PEEP or ALP on their initial reception and ongoing weekly
  • Update DPS and database with the up to date PEEP and ALP, to be shared with residential managers
  • Ensure all Diversity Peers and Red/Green bands are paid daily.
  • Support the development of the quarterly EDI newsletter for staff and prisoners.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

  • Up to date Diversity & Inclusion knowledge of legislation
  • Prison policy and procedure in relation to D&I
  • Knowledge of Equality Act and protected characteristics
  • People skills - communication, listening,
  • Report writing and analysis of data
  • IT literate

Desirable Skills

  • Welsh Speaker
  • Previous experience working within D&I
  • Knowledge of Prison routine
  • Confident public speaker
