Permanent - Full Time (40 hours per week)

Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. 

 

HMP Rye Hill is a category 'B' training prison situated in the village of Willoughby, near Rugby in Warwickshire, holding approximately 664 sentenced male adults.

 

Due to expansion we now have an opportunity for a Barbering Instructor to join our team at HMP Rye Hill to undertake delivery of Barbering training to meet contractual requirements and Awarding Body standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold a qualification to allow the delivery of accreditation in Barbering up to Level 3
  • Develop or contribute to a scheme of work and develop lesson plans to ensure a vocational based  curriculum up to Level 3
  • Assist in the development of learning materials to ensure quality and consistency of teaching materials.
  • Undertake assessments so that residents have the opportunity to achieve recognised qualifications.
  • Plan course programmes and manage against business targets
  • Experience of teaching in a classroom environment
  • Deliver and facilitate effective teaching, learning and assessment
  • Use blended learning methods to achieve successful outcomes
  • Work in partnership with Novus and other agencies 
  • Complete all documentation as required to meet the requirements of the Company, the contract and relevant external bodies.
  • Monitor student progress so that students receive appropriate support to achieve their goals and contractual requirements are fulfilled.  
  • Manage the teaching environment ensuring security of tools and equipment and maintenance of equipment to contractual requirements.
  • Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes the reporting of accidents and near misses in a timely manner and the application of safe systems of work for the role.

The Ideal Candidate:

You must hold an appropriate teaching qualification, have attention to detail and strong communication skills.

 

Experience of project/working planning, monitoring and reviewing is desirable but not essential.
