Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP Oakwood is one of the largest prisons in England and Wales, providing places for up to approximately 2100 Category C male prisoners.

HMP Oakwood is looking to recruit a part time Anglican Chaplain to join our forward thinking multi-faith team of Faith leaders, reporting to the Head of Chaplaincy as we aim to educate and inspire both our staff and prisoners through faith, belief and pastoral care.

To succeed in this role, you will be a dynamic and engaging individual, who shares our ethics and values. You must deliver an exceptional service and can be flexible in working within a fast paced environment.   You will also need to have excellent communication skills.

The successful candidate will be involved in providing Faith and Pastoral Care services for all who live and work in HMP Oakwood, irrespective of faith or tradition. You will be expected to take a lead on Faith issues relating to the needs of those from the Anglican faith tradition and will be involved in facilitating and leading the Christian faith service. You will be expected to maintain and develop strong links with the local faith community in order to facilitate good resettlement outcomes for Prisoners upon their release.

Key Responsibilities:

• To Lead Sunday service including delivering the sermon for the entire Anglican/Christian Community.
• Act as faith advisor in the establishment providing advice, pastoral care and spiritual welfare to prisoners and staff and their families as requested.
• To support in the leading of Bible Study and discipleship classes
•  To lead sacramental service like Holy Communion, Baptism
• To help promote the Christian faith within the establishment, working closely with other members of the Chaplaincy team, the Equalities team, and operational staff to ensure that the spiritual and pastoral needs of the Anglican prisoners are met
• To carry out some generic duties within the establishment, in particular visiting prisoners in the segregation unit and basic wings.
• To be a positive role model throughout the establishment.
• To support prisoners when necessary with issues that are raised or signpost the prisoner to the relevant area of expertise.
• Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner and follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.</span>
• You are required to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, and the organisation's Data Protection Policies and must ensure that personal data relating to service users, colleagues and others is collected, stored, processed and disposed of in accordance with these requirements.
• You must only access personal information necessary for your role, maintain confidentiality at all times and immediately report any data breaches or suspected breaches in line with G4S procedures.

Essential Skills

• Be an ordained member of the Anglican Communion. Have a formal endorsement in form of the license of the Diocesan Bishop
• You must have signed the Church of England documentation on mutual flourishing, be able to demonstrate knowledge of Anglican Theology and religious practice and have formal endorsement from the HMPPS Anglican Faith Advisor confirming eligibility.

Desirable Skills

• Experience of working in a prison environment is a desirable but not essential as training will be given.
