The role & team

Join us as a full time ongoing Registered Nurse in our nurse-led clinic at Mount Gambier Prison, reporting to our Management Team. You'll work within a supportive team of Nurses, our Medical Administration Officer and our part-time GP. We're looking for someone with great observational skills and the confidence to do systematic clinical assessments on prisoners. In the role you will:

  • Provide direct nursing care and individual case management to patients in a prison health environment.
  • Issue medication like insulin & methadone, provide wound care & assist with work injuries.
  • Contribute to patient safety, risk minimisation and safe work practices.
  • Contribute to procedures for effectively dealing with people exhibiting challenging behaviours.
  • Receive and provide support from our onsite GP.
  • Assist with unexpected events, such as reported chest pain.

Roster

  • Full-time commitment consisting of an 8-day fortnight.
  • Daily 10-hour shifts, scheduled from 8am–6pm or 9am–7pm.
  • A rotation that includes working alternate weekends.
  • Consistent day shifts with no night-time requirements.

What we're looking for

  • A completed Bachelor of Nursing
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA)
  • Holder of professional indemnity insurance, or willing to get this before commencement (nurse unions provide this for members)
  • Holder of first aid & CPR, or willing to get this before starting (we can pay for this and enrol you in a course)

The recruitment process

  • After this you will be invited to a 30-minute online interview via Google Meet or an onsite interview, depending on your location.
  • If successful, you will need to submit an application for a prison clearance, and we will need clearance before you can start onsite (*this can take up to 4 weeks after submission*).
