About the Role:

 

At HMP Rye Hill, a category 'B' training prison, we focus on rehabilitating offenders and preparing them for successful reintegration into society. We aim to create a safe and normalized environment for both staff and prisoners. We are seeking a Horticulture Instructor to manage our extensive grounds and provide valuable training to prisoners.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the grounds, including litter control, garden maintenance, and planning seasonal horticultural activities.
  • Supervise and train prisoners in horticultural tasks, fostering a strong work ethic and improving their employability upon release
  • Develop and implement individual learning plans for prisoners.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant policies, including health and safety, security, and quality standards.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, including regime monitoring, prisoner pay, and tool checks.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Learning & Skills, Resettlement, etc.) to meet prisoners' needs.
  • Contribute to the establishment's "Purposeful Activity" Key Performance Target.
  • Support the delivery of any accredited training/qualification offered and meet the standards and requirements of the awarding body.


The Ideal Candidate:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in the horticulture or gardening industry.
  • D32, D33, and D34 TDLB or Assessor Award A1 (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Experience in a custodial environment and a Teaching qualification are desirable but not essential.

Additional Information:

  • Successful candidates will undergo a 10-year background check and security vetting.
