About Us

G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention.  The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours.  We aim to support change and learning.

About the Role

We are now expanding our Education team and we are looking for an Education Liaison and Welfare Officer to support our young people to recognize their potential by working alongside our children and their professionals to prepare them for future education and work prospects.

 
 
Your main responsibilities will be to:
  • Research young people’s previous educational placements, to ensure relevant information is obtained, to inform and shape their Individual Education Plan.
  • Liaise with external agencies and relevant stakeholders prior to young people’s release to plan and assist in the preparation of educational placements in the community, to ensure a continuum of education / training and meet young people’s needs.
  • Monitor the outcomes of the educational placements, so that success rates can be measured and improvements made.
  • Implement, monitor and review individual Records of Achievement for all sentenced young people.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture to achieve and maintain recognition as a British Safety Council 5 Star business unit.
  • Support the acquisition of  Education Health and Care Plans and ensure timely transfer of information to Centre departments.
  • Support the Exams Officer with the transfer of examinations between education providers when necessary.
  • Liaise with other STCs and YOIs to transfer information about young people to aid the continuum of their education / training.
  • Assist and support young people to enable them to overcome barriers to learning and create positive educational opportunities.
  • Build and create mutual trust and respect with young people in order that they respond and react appropriately to information and guidance.
  • Support young people in developing individual action plans for release by facilitating opportunities for young people to complete job / college applications so that their needs are met.
  • Promote high standards of work and behaviour to assist in creating a learning environment that allows young people to maximise their opportunities.
  • Complete or possess certification as a custody officer to facilitate professional visits to aid continuation of courses whilst in custody and prepare for planned education / training placements.
  • Demonstrate the capability / willingness to complete a Level 5 IAG qualification, if appropriate.
  • Undertake any other reasonable management requests / tasks to support the development of this role and the business needs.
 


The Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of apprenticeships, college courses, and national curriculum
  • Experience giving IAG guidance to young people
  • Experience working with young people and supporting their progress
  • Have good administration skills including the ability to use Google software
  • Track and maintain data with high accuracy
