Health and Safety Officer

Main Purpose of the Position
To co-ordinate, support and advise on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety. To establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety within the unit and our SLA contracts, are adhered to. To monitor compliance regarding OSH Act and G4S Standards
Compliance and training
Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health
Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to
Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas relating to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training e.g. site Induction and medicals
Ensure that the Health and Safety Files is completed and compliant by the appointees and responsible stakeholders
Ensure that the site risk assessments are completed and approved by all responsible stakeholders
Providing (where needed) and ensuring all employees have received training on the risk assessments and that acknowledgments are signed, stored and available
Ensure compliance with all contractual SLA health and safety appointments (i.e. first aiders, health and safety representatives, Supervisor appointments, Safety Officer appointment)
Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business
Admin and Relevant Reporting
Coordinate the development of health & safety systems of work and procedures.
Establish a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks.
Provide regular reports to the Head of Health and Safety on relevant health and safety activities.
Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time.
Health and Safety
Participate in the design/ development/ review/ implementation and monitoring of the departmental safety plans for each year.
Participate in safety forums created by the company for example safety meetings and safety talks and ensure acknowledgments are available and on file
Report all safety incidents to the relevant people
Investigate, document and present all safety incidents to G4S and the customer.
Responsible for ensuring that all recommended improvements stemming from incident investigations are implemented
Distribute safety information as and when required
Ensure that monthly safety inspections on company equipment (i.e. vehicles, PPE) to ensure compliance with company standards and country regulations
Giving advice on health and safety, technical, and legal issues
Ensuring the working environment is free of potential hazards
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent
National Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (SAMTRAC, NEBOSH or equivalent)
A minimum of 3 years recent and relevant working experience in a Health and Safety role
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Incident Investigation experience
Experience in the mining working environment will be advantageous
Previous experience in gathering, analysing and reporting on key H&S data/statistics essential
