About G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC)

G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention.  The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours.  We aim to support change and learning.

 

We strive to help every child feel safe, giving them an opportunity to heal from trauma and feel supported in developing a more positive identity.  We ensure our children have equal access and opportunity for change and are celebrated for their strengths.  We want the children in our care to leave better equipped for life emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially.  Our hope is that they will go on to make decisions and life choices that will lead to increasingly positive and productive lives.  We aim to support the constructive resettlement and transition of our children, whether returning to the community or moving to other custodial settings.  We are committed to working in partnership with them and their families, significant others and wider community organisations, to develop a quality regime at the centre.

 

About the Role

As a Resettlement Practice Manager, you will manage allocated members of the Resettlement Team, whilst working directly with the young people, families, external agencies and Centre staff to provide comprehensive, effective anti-offending packages and care plans, that meet the needs of young people and reduce the likelihood of re-offending whilst promoting the safeguarding of trainee’s welfare in accordance with legislation and guidance.

 

There is a focus on successful resettlement from the very outset, and consistently throughout the entirety of a child’s time at the centre.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Manage and monitor the assessment, planning, review and discharge arrangements for young people ensuring compliance with relevant standards and in line with case management systems (YJAF).
  • Supervise and manage a small team of Resettlement Caseworkers and Interventions Staff.
  • Design and review individually tailored offending behaviour packages to ensure young people’s needs are met.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts, liaising with relevant stakeholders, to ensure the young people’s needs are met.
  • Coach, support and develop staff, to maximise their performance and ensure high standards of care, values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, legislation and contractual and inspection framework requirements are met.
  • Monitor, evaluate and provide professional guidance on reports, assessments and agreed Care Plans of young people to ensure high standards of care and welfare are achieved whilst complying with relevant requirements.
  • Support, guide and advise Centre staff to ensure work with young people is effective and meets individual young person’s targets and objectives.
  • Participate in the risk assessment during admissions process to ensure that the immediate vulnerability and risk of the young person is determined accurately.
  • Train support and guide and advise relevant stakeholders, external agencies and parents/carers to ensure a coordinated approach professional approach, which meets the young people’s needs.
  • Coordinate and lead the development of an allocated specialist area of practice in line with Resettlement Pathways,
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.</li>

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a dynamic and engaging individual, with a passion for helping, mentoring, and supporting at the heart of everything you do. The role will require you to promote a child centred approach which prioritises both the safeguarding of the children’s welfare and wellbeing as well as ensuring that a stable and secure environment is provided for all the children and employees at the Centre.

 

You will have a professional qualification in a relevant subject such as Psychology Degree, Sociology Degree, Criminology Degree or Foundation Degree in Youth Justice.

 

You will play a huge part in the rehabilitation of a child’s future journey and life choices.
