Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Early Days in Custody (EDIC) Case Management Team at HMP & YOI Parc and make a real difference to the first impressions that prisoners have when they come to us.

Our EDIC team have been established to ensure newly arrived prisoners have a positive experience where they are treated with dignity, respect and care. The team will provide a consistent point of support from the moment prisoners arrive on their transport until they leave our induction unit, ensuring they feel welcome, looked after and calm. Within this team, you’ll be required to provide support and assistance, undertake assessments, provide brief interventions and facilitate group sessions. The role is busy but rewarding and you will have the opportunity to make a real difference every day.

Some of the key responsibilities are;

 • Assist new arrivals with all aspects of the reception process and provide information and advice where necessary
 • Undertake assessments with new arrivals at different stages of their induction in a non-intrusive manner so that needs, risks and protective factors are identified and shared, and ensure this information is captured on the EDIC tool
 • Work alongside the resettlement support team to ensure prisoners engage in opportunities and pathways which will enhance their resettlement journey.
 • Support the delivery of key resettlement objectives
 • Analyse information gathered and be able to identify and share key information to enhance safety for prisoners and staff
 • Deliver one-to-one brief interventions based on identified needs where appropriate
 • Deliver group work sessions alongside prisoner peer mentors on a range of topics as part of the Parc induction programme
 • Make recommendations about onward support requirements for prisoners when they leave induction, make appropriate referrals and recommend suitable residential pathways where necessary
 • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure support is made available during the early days period
 • Work as part of a team to ensure tasks each day are completed
 • Support and supervise prisoner peer mentors who work as part of the EDIC team
 • Role model pro-social behavior and demonstrate professionalism and care consistently
 • Provide training to other departments about the EDIC process where required
 • Complete any other reasonable tasks required as part of the role
 • Liaise with other prisons where appropriate and necessary
 • Undertake any personal or professional development as required by the role, in particular in relation to safety and risk management

The successful candidate must have experience of working with vulnerable client groups, be able to recognise and adapt to the business environment we work within and deal with changing circumstances.
