HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough is setting a new standard for new build prisons of the future, using forward-thinking design and technology. The Prison is the UK’s first purpose-built, new resettlement Prison. After opening in 2022 it is a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future and has become an integral part of the local community.
G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.</p>
Security Officers (SOs) are key to the effective security of our prison and we are looking for a number of people who can fit naturally into this role.
You will possess strong organisational and communication skills, and will be dedicated to providing a high quality security service.
Key responsibilities:
- To coordinate response to alarms and manage the initial response to events and emergencies.
- To conduct security checks on all Integrated security systems such as CCTV cameras, radios, radio net tests, Personal alarms ensuring all defects are reported immediately to the Head of Security / Operation
- To be aware of the current situation in all parts of the prison in order to aid decisions on movements and events and to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- To maintain an accurate and up to date roll count of the prison at all times and the number of prisoners in each area through movement control.
- To maintain an occurrence log off all movements and incidents.
- To have an up to date knowledge of the HMP Five Wells contingency plans
- To maintain efficient operating procedures as per the local security strategy
- To operate and monitor all CCTV equipment
- To deal with internal/external telephone calls in a polite and professional manner
- To control the radio net, operating the radio system in a professional manner and using the correct radio procedures in line with the local security strategy.
- To receive, evaluate and report information and incidents
- Update and maintain the Daily Radio Log
- To control and authorise movement of prisoners, staff, contractors and vehicles within the establishment.
- Manage and monitor access and egress into the establishment for Staff and Visitors
- Booking in/ out and searching of all vehicles entering/ exiting the prison and personnel
- Escorting all vehicles
- Checking all prisoner release pass before release from Prison
- Liaising with Admissions/Control on Possible emergency procedures, Emergency Services arriving (Fire, Ambulance, Police)
- Maintaining the Security of the Establishments perimeter via correct operation of the airlock system
- Complete daily Internal and External perimeter fence checks
- Manage the processing and collation of Parcels delivered to the establishment and maintain the Property / Parcel’s Database system
- Complete Visitor searching for prisoners Domestic visits
- Complete Driving duties for prisoner escorts when required.
Key Competencies:
- To be smart in appearance at all times to enable delivery of Front of House expectations.
- To be IT literate and comfortable with both Windows based and Google operating systems.
- To be polite and mindful of the needs of all who may be interacted with either in person or via remote communications including staff, visitors and contractors.
- To work seamlessly with other team members.
- To be able to contribute to the department and function strategy.
