About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Plumber Technician to join our Facilities Management team at Churchill Hospital.
In addition to your core plumbing responsibilities, you will provide additional technical support to the wider Facilities Management team in key mechanical, HVAC and building services areas, where appropriate and within your level of competence. This may include supporting systems such as AHUs, FCUs, chillers, BMS, life safety systems, emergency lighting and access control.
The role will involve responding to planned and reactive maintenance requirements, carrying out preventative maintenance, identifying faults and ensuring plant and equipment remain safe, reliable and compliant.
You will work as part of our Facilities Management team, contributing your plumbing expertise while supporting the wider team across key areas of site engineering services.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), routine inspections, fault-finding and repairs on plumbing and heating systems.

Maintain domestic and commercial hot and cold-water systems.

Inspect, maintain and repair drainage systems and sanitaryware.

Maintain and troubleshoot pumps, boilers and associated heating equipment.

Identify, isolate and safely contain leaks, responding promptly to water-related faults and emergencies.

Carry out reactive maintenance and breakdown response within agreed SLAs and KPIs.

Support water hygiene and Legionella control activities in accordance with site procedures and relevant requirements.

Monitor plumbing and heating plant and equipment and identify potential faults or failures.

Complete accurate PPM records, maintenance documentation and statutory inspection records.

Raise, update and complete work orders through the CAFM system, ensuring accurate reporting and full traceability.

Read and follow technical drawings, equipment manuals, specifications and maintenance procedures.

Identify and order required materials, control spare parts and maintain appropriate stock levels.

Supervise and coordinate contractors where required, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with RAMS, permits, KPIs and site requirements.

Manage permits and comply with all Health & Safety, ISO and site procedures.

Provide additional technical support to the wider FM team in key areas, including AHUs, FCUs, chillers, BMS and other mechanical and building services systems, where appropriate.

Assist with general building services maintenance within the limits of your training, competence and experience.

Support the maintenance and basic fault-finding of associated mechanical plant, including fans, motors, VFDs and other building services equipment where required.

Contribute to root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Support project, lifecycle and development works when required.

Maintain a safe, clean and efficient working environment at all times.

Participate in on-call, emergency call-out and out-of-hours maintenance duties as required.

Assist in the training and development of other maintenance staff involved in site maintenance activities.
Essential Requirements
- NVQ and C&G 6189-11 in Plumbing, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Time-served plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent structured training.
- Legionella awareness training.
- Strong practical experience in plumbing and heating systems.
- Experience of maintaining hot and cold-water systems, drainage, sanitaryware, pumps and boilers.
- Ability to identify, isolate and safely contain leaks.
- Proven experience of planned and reactive maintenance and fault-finding within an active operational environment.
- General technical experience within an FM engineering environment, with evidence of how that knowledge has been applied and developed in a comparable setting.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and manage time effectively.
- Good communication, organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and technical documentation.
Desirable Requirements
- MGPSCP training and AP sign-off.
- Experience with single-split air-conditioning systems.
- Experience with VSD/VFD-controlled chillers.
- Maintenance of BMS, Lighting Management systems, Emergency Lighting systems (Dali) an advantage.
