G4S Patient Transport Services (PTS) is one of the UK’s largest Non-Emergency Patient Transport providers, carrying out over 500,000 journeys on behalf of the NHS every year. With 12 operational bases across the UK and a dedicated call centre, we employ over 720 members of staff to deliver safe, caring, high-quality patient transport.


About the Role


The Single Point of Communication Officer (SPoC) operates as a critical, integral member of the Intelligent Patient Transport Hub (IPTH), ensuring seamless and reliable information flow between the central control room and all Points of Care across the Kent & Medway PTS service. This pivotal role is dedicated to forging robust collaborative partnerships with operational teams and leadership. It serves as the professional and objective focal point for complex communication and issue resolution, primarily for NHS Trusts interfacing with daily control operations. The SPoC provides essential, proactive support to Controllers and Supervisors by rapidly resolving operational impediments ('blockers') and managing complex queries originating from Points of Care throughout the area of responsibility.


Furthermore, the role significantly contributes to operational resilience by providing necessary capacity to the Controller pool as required. This position will support reportable activities in conjunction with the Patient Experience Team to Statutory bodies within mandated timeframes, including the triage of safeguarding referrals and the facilitation of CQC statutory notifications.


Some of the key responsibilities are:

  • Act as the primary operational liaison with frontline teams and external stakeholders to strategically manage, administer, and resolve all communication requirements, including feedback, concerns, and queries, ensuring rigorous compliance with G4S policies, protocols, and contractual KPIs

  • Cultivate robust, proactive partnerships with operational staff and escalation for external NHS agencies to drive the prompt and definitive resolution of complex operational and communication issues, thereby maximizing service effectiveness and securing optimal outcomes for G4S, partner NHS Trusts and patients alike.

  • Proactively identify and rapidly resolve operational 'blockers' and complex queries originating from Points of Care, ensuring minimal disruption to daily control operations and maintaining the integrity of the patient journey.

  • Provide essential operational resilience and capacity management by supporting Day Controllers in effectively managing high call volumes, minimizing delays, and ensuring the continuous, efficient flow of patient transport services during peak operational periods.

  • Take ownership of end-to-end progress monitoring for critical and complex operational issues, diligently securing definitive resolutions and executing timely, structured escalation of high-risk or protracted situations to the Control Room Management structure.

  • In the capacity of Safeguarding Named Professional (Level 3), assist where required the triage of safeguarding referrals and escalate high-risk cases to the Director of Patient Safety and the Clinical Patient Safety Lead.
