The role and team
We're seeking a dynamic Work Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team and drive a proactive safety-first culture at Mount Gambier Prison. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll be instrumental in developing and implementing robust WHS policies and procedures, ensuring legislative compliance, and expertly managing incidents and hazards. We need a hands-on leader who is confident driving change and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
In this role you will:
- Oversee the comprehensive management and recording of staff and prisoner injuries, ensuring timely access to medical support, advice, and our injury management partner, Injury Assist.
- Proactively monitor legislative changes and WHS best practices, mitigating legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Ensure that on-site policies and procedures are compliant and aligned with WHS legislation.
- Work closely with the site's HR Manager and Injury Management Advisor to manage Return to Work and WorkCover claims.
- Establish new work plans and find suitable duties for staff returning to work.
- Prepare WHS reports for the Department of Correctional Services against key metrics and KPIs.
- Lead implementation of G4S safety plans and initiatives.
- Promote and drive engagement in our Health Initiatives, including onsite health assessments by Health by Design.
- Participate in daily meetings with Supervisors, a monthly meeting with Health by Design, and lead the WHS Committee meeting every two months.
What we're looking for
- Cert 4 or a similar qualification in Work Health & Safety
- Extensive operational knowledge of WHS and return to work
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation and regulations
- Able to complete and pass a national police check and prison clearance
