Salary :  £39,757.14 per annum

Permanent - Full Time (40 hours per week)

At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody. 

 

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management system of security intelligence, maintaining a robust knowledge of issues relating to the safety of the Centre.

 

Some of the key responsibilities of the role are;

  • Coach, support and develop staff, including supervision, to maximise their performance and ensure high standards of care, values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, legislation and contractual and inspection framework requirements are met.
  • Form trusting, respectful and professional relationships with young people, in order that they respond and react appropriately to information and guidance.
  • Manage a positive risk culture in order to promote inclusion, integration and to minimise the risk of incidents occurring.
  • All staff employed by G4S has the responsibility for their own Health & Safety and to their colleagues in order to assist G4S in its obligation to achieve British Safety Council Requirements at all times.
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed to a high standard, within required timescales and communicated effectively, in order to comply with the Contract and Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Proactively plan each shift, including activities and visits, in order to positively manage young people’s behaviour.
  • Manage incidents as and when necessary and ensure support of the Educational and Activity programmes at the Centre
  • Manage a system of security intelligence, maintaining a robust knowledge of issues relating to the safety of the Centre
  • Manage all mobility processes
  • Liaison with Safeguarding to manage Counter Terrorism and Extremism
  • Liaise effectively and professionally with internal and external agencies, parents and carers, in order to maximise partnership working and positive outcomes for young people.
  • Support the senior management team in the implementation of development strategies promoting a positive approach to ensure the change process is embraced.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

The Ideal Candidate:

You must have previous secure residential experience within child-care together with comprehensive knowledge of security and contingency procedures.

 

With an exceptional record keeping ability you must hold or be willing to complete a level 3 award in management.
