About the role and team

Our Custody and Transport Officers are responsible for the safety, security, and humane custody of individuals in our care. We manage custodial operations across Justice Services in the Northern Territory, including the Custody Watch House and Local Law Courts across the NT region. You will join an evolving team of eighty across growing operations, working under the guidance of our Supervisors and Operations Manager.

This role encompasses: supervision, court-related duties, medical and bedside escorts, transport duties, and adherence to all relevant policies and procedures. Your responsibilities will be to facilitate secure physical movement of people in custodial settings, supervision care of people in custodial/medical settings and logistical management, moving people between custodial settings.

The role will require shift work, providing a variety of different rosters (24/7 and Monday to Friday) with a mix of different shift lengths (8-hr to 12-hr shifts).

Responsibilites specifc to work location include:

  • Watch House Custody: Looking after the daily routine, watch house operations. and supervision of people in custody - including providing first aid when required.
  • Court Custody: You'll be responsible for court cell management, escorting people in custody to and from courtrooms, and managing the custody of people awaitng court appearances.
  • Transportation: Safely transporting people in custody to designated locations such as courts, medical appointments, hospitals, and custody centres.
  • Bed Sits: Continuous security monitoring and observation, risk mitigation, reporting, and ensuring patient welfare within a public health setting.

This role has a high focus on Documentation and Reporting. You will be preparing quality written reports relating to prisoner information, prisoner assessments, incidents, and transport logs - ensuring documentation complies with legal requirements.

Remuneration

You can earn up to $70,000 working across a Monday to Friday roster, covering daytime shifts.

Working across multiple services and a broader 24/7 roster pattern, you will have the earning potential of approximately $85,000.

The hourly rates are: Weekdays - $33.17 | Nights - $38.15 | Saturdays - $49.76 | Sundays - $66.34 | Public Holidays - $82.93

What we're looking for

We're looking for strong communicators who are adaptable to their work environments. You'll be engaging directly with people in custody, so it's crucial that you're comfortable with working in a custodial environment, looking after all individuals in your care. It is essential that you:

  • Hold a full and current Australian driver's licence,
  • Are eligible to work full-time in Australia, with no restrictions
