At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.
Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.
Oakhill Secure Training Centre is looking to employ an Operational Manager to provide professional advice, guidance and support to operational staff for safety processes such as Suicide, Self-Harm, Resolution, Anti-Bullying, Removal from Association and Enhanced Support Services.
The successful candidate will also undertake direct line management of the Conflict Resolution and Enhanced Support Team
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and guidance on suicide and self-harm, removal from association and anti-bullying ensuring compliance with relevant contractual standards and to minimise their occurrence.
- Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Safety processes and make recommendations about risk and non-compliance to ensure such issues are managed effectively within the establishment.
- Quality Assure and maintain records and risk assessments on all young people considered to be at risk so that accurate information is readily available.
- Oversight and governance of documentation in relation to relevant safety processes.
- Communicate standards and procedures required of SASH and violence reduction to share best practice and meet centre standards.
- Analyse, share and evaluate relevant information in order to identify trends so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Senior management oversight of the ESS model including chairing the weekly DMT meeting.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure contractual compliance and that all departments are meeting SASH, Removal from Association and Anti-Bullying management standards.
- Daily, weekly and monthly reports and analysis around trends and hotspots - analysing and acting upon information which will support the Operational teams.
- Deliver data and reports for trading reviews to ensure effective practice meetings to maximise continuous improvement.
- Deliver and have oversight of the Behaviour Management Strategy - ensure staff are upskilled and confident to deliver practices on the Residential House Units.
- Lead and develop Managers within the team, include supervision, to maximize their management performance and ensure high standards of care, values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures.
- Audit and compliance all areas of responsibility e.g. SASH, Conflict Resolution, Anti-Bullying, Removal from Association and Enhanced Support Service.
- Short and long term planning - delivery of training and liaison with external training providers.
- Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health and Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner and follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.
- You are required to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, and the organisation’s Data Protection Policies and must ensure that personal data relating to service users, colleagues and others is collected, stored, processed and disposed of in accordance with these requirements.
- You must only access personal information necessary for your role, maintain confidentiality at all times and immediately report any data breaches or suspected breaches in line with G4S procedures.

Essential Skills
- Custody Officer certified
- Experience within a custodial setting
- Managerial experience within a child-care establishment
- Experience managing a team.
Desirable Skills
- Detailed knowledge of communication tools and techniques
- Experience of project/ work planning, monitoring and reviewing
- Ability to use Google documents.
- Willing and able to carry out Duty Director responsibilities on a rostered basis
