Psychologist (Provisional or Full Registration)

This role is based fully onsite at Mount Gambier Prison, in Mount Gambier SA. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

The role and team

We are looking for a Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist to join us at Mount Gambier Prison. It's a campus-style prison with work and education programs, and we manage and rehabilitate offenders. We are seeking a Psychologist who can take the lead in overseeing and managing prisoners who present as a high risk of suicide and/or self-harm, as well as providing advice to staff regarding best practice in supporting this group. You will work as an immediate team of two experts, partnering with the broader Rehabilitiation & Reintegration teams.

This role would be perfect for a professional with an interest in working in a correctional environment. In this role you will:

• Provide advice about the management of vulnerable and at-risk prisoners.
• Facilitate criminogenic and psychoeducational group intervention programs to prisoners at Mount Gambier Prison, in partnership with staff from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).
• Assist in the oversight of the High-Risk Assessment Team that manages prisoners at increased risk of suicide and self-harm.
• Ensure regular team meetings occur to maintain communication and currency of practice amongst Social Workers and Case Management Coordinators.
• Liaise with the Sentence Management Unit (SMU), Rehabilitation Programs Branch (RPB), the Parole Board, and the Serious Offenders Committee regarding case management of those who are at risk.
• Work with various staff, community agencies and the Department of Correctional Services to provide pre-release planning and post release support for prisoners.

What we're looking for

• Completion of a Master's degree in Psychology.
• Current registration as a practising psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA). We will also accept those who are provisionally registered and working towards their full registration.
• Holder of a current driver's licence or probationary licence.
