G4S in Wales are a key provider of criminal justice services- operating in both the custodial and community sectors. We pride ourselves on the quality of our provision and we consistently seek to work alongside and in partnership with a range of other providers in the voluntary (third), public and private sectors.
We have developed services which are focused on identifying ways to maximise positive impact and make the most effective use of available resources by working with other agencies on common objectives. In this way we are increasingly able to meet wide ranging and complex needs in the most appropriate way.
We have a commitment to research, evaluation and review of evidence based initiatives.
We value and, where possible, contribute to research into reducing re-offending and therefore we recognise the importance of understanding the wider environment in which individuals operate and this informs us about how best to engage, support and help people with change.
We seek to employ people with drive and energy and a real interest in innovation and teamwork – working beyond traditional organisational boundaries.
We now have an opportunity for a Court Practitioner to join our Canol team with Merthyr Court. The successful candidate will liaise with probation practitioners and court staff to identify people suitable for alcohol or drug community treatment requirement assessments, and then complete assessments with individuals. It involves offering an assessment to anyone identified as having substance or alcohol support needs, if they are known to our services or if their offence is linked to their substance or alcohol use. Suitability will be fed back to the probation practitioner for court decision-making.
Some of the key responsibilities are;
- To work with people in a person-centred way, exploring their needs with safety in mind and tailoring your approach to their engagement style, capability and personal characteristics
- To conduct assessments for people who may benefit from drug or alcohol community support
- To conduct brief interventions for people within the court, providing immediate harm reduction and safety guidance, and onward referrals for community support are given.
- To swiftly identify people who may benefit from clinical treatment, gather initial information and access the online booking system to support people in accessing rapid access clinical services
- To develop a good understanding of other support services available, such as accommodation, employment and training, health services, family/relationship support, finance, benefit and debt, to ensure effective signposting based on need.
- To ensure all information is accurately recorded and communicated via case management systems and trackers.
- To update the Probation services with assessment outcomes and compliance of those on statutory orders for any court reviews.
- To provide reports to the Court as required.
- To represent the organisation within the court setting, promoting our approach that every interaction is an opportunity to engage with support, and promoting every opportunity for community support as an alternative to custodial sentencing.
- To contribute to safety at work by using your lone working device and reporting any near misses/hazards.
The successful candidate must have an understanding of the contributory factors to involvement with substances and be able to work as part of a multi-agency team making positive and swift relationships.
Good IT and report writing skills and a full UK driving licence with business insurance are also a requirement of this role.
Please note that applicants must complete a 200 - 400 word statement outlining their suitability for the role and clearly outlining how your skills, experience and knowledge would apply to this post.
We encourage applications from Welsh speaking candidates.
