Dyfodol Early Intervention Practitioner – Young Persons Unit
Bridgend, CF36 6AP
£26,239.50 per annum pro rata
Permanent – Part Time (30 hours per week)
G4S in Wales are a key provider of criminal justice services- operating in both the custodial and community sectors. We pride ourselves on the quality of our provision and we consistently seek to work alongside and in partnership with a range of other providers in the voluntary (third), public and private sectors.
We have developed services which are focused on identifying ways to maximise positive impact and make the most effective use of available resources by working with other agencies on common objectives. In this way we are increasingly able to meet wide ranging and complex needs in the most appropriate way.
We have a commitment to research, evaluation and review of evidence based initiatives.
We value and, where possible, contribute to research into reducing re-offending and therefore we recognise the importance of understanding the wider environment in which individuals operate and this informs us about how best to engage, support and help people with change.
We seek to employ people with drive and energy and a real interest in innovation and teamwork – working beyond traditional organisational boundaries.
As the dedicated EIP (Early Intervention Practitioner) in the YPU (Young Person’s Unit), you will play a critical role in enabling young people with their substance use to build positive futures and healthy lifestyles, whilst focusing on moving into active recovery. Your main focus will be holding a caseload with children who have substance use related needs in the YPU and will work collaboratively with other services to enable the YPs to achieve objectives set for their time in custody, as well as capturing and communicating information relating to their safety and risk.
This role will focus on direct work with young people and will involve a lot of inter-agency and multidisciplinary approaches. Your main responsibilities will include early intervention, assessing and identifying treatment needs, offering brief interventions, offering 1-2-1 and group work, supporting health promotion and harm reduction initiatives. You will also be responsible for supporting effective throughcare, whether that be at point of release or transition from the YPU to the main prison estate or another establishment. You will also be responsible for reviewing and/or designing intervention packages relevant for the YPU population to support effective service delivery.
We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about supporting young people and someone who believes in a positive psychology approach and firmly believes that people can change. The environment and role can be challenging, but we strive to support people at Parc to focus on improving their well-being, and building good lives and positive futures.
Working within a prison environment requires someone confident, caring and able to show support to vulnerable people accessing our services, showing dignity and respect at all times.

- Use a range of evidenced based and age appropriate interventions and methods that have been agreed for use within the service

- Use a combination of motivational work, relationship building and a broad range of behaviour, lifestyle and therapeutic skills to engage young people to address their identified behaviours.
- Carry out appropriate assessments of the young person to determine the nature and extent of substance use; exploring treatment needs and readiness, explore how this impacts upon all aspects of their life identifying problem areas; prioritise need, using information gathered to inform care plan and to support effective sequence of treatment planning
- Provide relevant information, advice and support the young children with the aim of reducing the risk of harm to themselves, their families, friends and wider community; reducing the risk of overdose and spread of communicable diseases and lapse or relapse
- Promote effective communication and integration with all relevant departments and services within the prison, and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to increase opportunities for the people you care for
- Ensure that risk assessment and risk management procedures are followed at all times
- Ensuring the health, welfare and safety of young people is considered in every aspect of your work and take action to safeguard children
- Ensure all work completed with young people is communicated and documented on a wide range of systems including YJAF and System one.
- Develop a process to support the constructive resettlement of children within the community.
- Attend and contribute to meetings that plan to support young people with complex and challenging needs
- Liaise with Social Services to ensure the identified needs of looked after children are met and maintained
- Work in an integrated way across various sectors with both internal and external agencies
- Delivering 1-2-1 and/or group sessions and workshops and training where appropriate
The ideal candidate must have experience in the fields of criminal justice or substance misuse and have an ability to empower young people and enable them through informed decision making.
You must be able to work in a flexible non-judgmental manner with people who have offended and have substance misuse related needs.
You will work independently and as part of a team and be required to prioritise and manage your time and workload to meet the needs and demands of the service.
