Role and Core Responsibilities - The General Manager holds overall responsibility for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for the entire Manchester Centre. Your primary mission will be to ensure the sustained achievement of the company's critical objectives and to actively champion the G4S brand, solidifying its reputation as a trusted leader within the Cash Solutions industry.

Dual Operational and Financial Oversight - This demanding role requires a leader with proficiency in managing complex, dual-faceted operations. You will be responsible for the holistic performance of the site, encompassing both the operational and financial areas of two distinct but integrated business lines:

  • Cash Centre Operations: Overseeing the secure processing, sorting, and storage of cash, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of accuracy, security, and compliance.

  • Cash In Transit (CIT) Services: Managing the logistics, security protocols, and route optimisation for the secure collection and delivery of cash to and from our valued customers.

Strategic Planning and Performance Management - A key element of your role is to develop, articulate, and execute the annual business plan for the Manchester site. This plan will be the blueprint for achieving all site objectives. You will be held accountable for the achievement of comprehensive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across all critical facets of the business:

  • Customer: Ensuring exceptional service delivery, high customer satisfaction, and retention.

  • Financial: Driving revenue growth, managing operational costs, and maximising profitability.

  • Internal Business Processes: Optimising workflows, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring robust governance and compliance.

  • People: Leading and developing a high-performing workforce, managing industrial relations, and fostering a positive, safe, and productive workplace culture.

  • Health and Safety: Maintaining a zero-harm environment by rigorously enforcing all corporate and statutory Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Resource and Stakeholder Management - You will strategically Design, Plan, and Manage all site resources—including personnel (235 direct employees, 9 indirect) , fleet (62 Vehicles, 55 O licensed vehicles), technology, and infrastructure—to enhance overall value for all company stakeholders. This involves managing resources and work processes both cost-effectively and efficiently, ensuring that all contractual obligations to our customers are consistently met and exceeded. Your stewardship is vital to the long-term success and sustainability of the G4S Cash Solutions service in the region.

Key Task & Responsibilities

The Role

  • Achieve continuous improvement in the financial performance of the operation, ensuring the Centre meets all budgetary commitments.

  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of the Cash Solutions automation vision.

  • Collaborate closely with the Commercial Team to design and execute the business growth strategy.

  • Regularly engage with existing local customers served by the branch, fostering relationships that support contract retention and identify growth opportunities.

  • Ensure that all staff consistently deliver and maintain a high standard of customer care by monitoring service levels and implementing corrective action as appropriate.

  • Establish and agree upon clear, challenging objectives with subordinates, regularly reviewing their performance and taking decisive action to address any shortfalls.

  • Manage site resources effectively, identifying departmental synergies to drive efficiencies while upholding all Customer and regulatory contractual obligations.

  • Create and develop a continuous improvement strategy engaging all colleagues on site.

  • Develop succession planning strategies, identifying and cultivating talent to fill future leadership and business-critical positions.

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant legislative requirements and maintain Company procedures and standards (including those related to Health and Safety, security, personnel, finance, and Transport).

  • Conduct regular management meetings and communicate updates to all branch staff through formal briefings.

  • Contribute to the wider branch network by identifying and disseminating best practices.

  • Support the wider Leadership Team in identifying and achieving Business strategic plans.

  • Ensure the prevention of cash losses for both customers and the G4S business.

  • Continually evaluate the required resources for the Branch, considering current and future demands, and ensuring capacity plans are aligned with volume reductions and fluctuations.

  • Prepare annual budgets and provide reports on the monthly financial position.

  • Ensure full compliance with all security procedures within the branch.

  • Ensure appropriate consultation with Trade Union/Staff Representatives.

  • Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably assigned by the line manager or the business.

Key Competencies and Experience

      The successful candidate will possess a broad and deep set of commercial and operational capabilities, underpinned by exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Extensive Commercial Acumen: A proven track record in understanding market dynamics, identifying new business opportunities, and developing robust strategies to drive profitable growth.

  • Experience with Profit & Loss and Budgetary Management: Comprehensive experience in managing a substantial P&L account, including rigorous budgetary control, accurate forecasting, cost-saving initiatives, and maximising operational efficiency to achieve financial targets.

  • Exceptional Management and Leadership Capabilities: The ability to inspire, motivate, and direct a diverse team to achieve demanding performance targets. This includes strategic planning, delegation, performance management, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

  • Highly Effective Interpersonal Communication Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, necessary for engaging with employees at all levels, negotiating with clients and suppliers, and presenting confidently to senior stakeholders.

  • Proven Ability to Lead a Team Through Periods of Significant Change: Demonstrated experience in managing organisational transformation, restructuring, or rapid scaling, ensuring high levels of employee engagement and business continuity 

  • Logistics Professional: Deep knowledge and practical application of end-to-end logistics principles, covering warehousing, transport planning, inventory management, and supply chain optimisation.

  • Possesses Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Qualification: Holding a valid CPC is essential, demonstrating legal compliance and advanced competency in the operational management of road transport.

  • Essential Experience in Managing a Labour-Intensive, Multi-Shift Operation: Non-negotiable experience in overseeing a complex operation requiring careful management of a large, diverse workforce across multiple shift patterns, ensuring compliance with all labour laws and maximising productivity.

  • Proficient in Lean Management Methodologies: Practical application of Lean principles (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen) to systematically eliminate waste, improve processes, and enhance overall operational throughput and quality.

  • Understanding of Production Management Principles: A solid grasp of principles related to scheduling, capacity planning, quality control, and resource allocation to ensure efficient and effective production or service delivery.

  • The Aptitude to Critically Evaluate Current Practices and Implement Sustainable Improvements: A proactive and analytical mindset with the capability to identify operational bottlenecks, conduct root cause analysis, and design and embed sustainable, long-term process improvements.

  • Demonstrated Expertise in Customer Service: A strong customer-centric focus with a proven history of developing and maintaining high-level relationships, ensuring superior service delivery, and managing complex customer issues to resolution, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction and retention.transformation

  • Educated to degree level or holding an equivalent professional qualification

  • You must be able to pass a criminal record check as well as a personal credit and ID check.
  • You’ll need to provide 10-year employment/unemployment/educational history that we can check and verify.
  • You will need to be prepared to undergo airport style searches when entering and leaving our premises and be comfortable working within a secure warehouse environment.
