Salary range : £36,628.16 - £42,160.74 per annum

Permanent, Full-time, 40 Hours per week

At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.

 

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

 

During their time with us, they attend education within our on-site facility (the Acorn Education Centre), as well as taking part in offending behaviour programmes designed to help them address the actions and attitudes that led them to custody. Our aim for all young people at Oakhill is to help them develop the skills they will need to thrive upon release.

 

Delivering subjects such as English, Maths, Physical Education, Employability Skills, Business Studies, Food Technology, Art and Physical & Sports Education, we are looking for a qualified and experienced Outreach Teacher to join us and deliver high quality English lessons to our Children. As part of our Education Team, you will play a vital role in the rehabilitation and resettlement of the Children, through the provision of an effective education programmes leading to nationally recognised qualifications.</p>

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Plan, develop and deliver outreach education in accordance with the needs of the establishment and that matches the timetable and the national curriculum so that individual young people’s needs are met.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to young people’s care and education.
  • Monitor the progress of outreach learners so that they can progress so that they can receive appropriate support and have the opportunity to achieve recognised qualifications.
  • Assist in the development of educational materials, ensuring quality and consistency of approach.
  • Complete all documentation as required to meet the needs of the company and relevant awarding bodies.
  • Manage the teaching environment ensuring the security of equipment and welfare of young people in line with contractual requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive Health & Safety culture to support the recognition as a British Safety 5-star Business Unit.</li>
  • Ensure maintenance of security within the centre environment by compliance with security.
  • You are required to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, and the organisation's Data Protection Policies and must ensure that personal data relating to service users, colleagues and others is collected, stored, processed and disposed of in accordance with these requirements.
  • You must only access personal information necessary for your role, maintain confidentiality at all times and immediately report any data breaches or suspected breaches in line with G4S procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education qualification
  • An enthusiasm for all aspects of education and training with a commitment to the well being of students.
  • An ability and willingness to innovate and demonstrate self-motivation

  • Plenty of life experience, common sense and a firm but fair approach

This is a diverse role, and can be difficult due to the nature of the Children you will be dealing with. You will need to be confident, assertive and resilient, with plenty of life experience, common sense and a firm but fair approach.
