About the Role & Team

We are looking to hire a Deputy General Manager to manage the operations and security function of one of the largest G4S operations in Australia, Mount Gambier Prison, based in South Australia. The Deputy General Manager assists the General Manager in the administration, supervision, and implementation of operations and policies at the Prison, in accordance with the contractual arrangements with our client.

The successful candidate will be taking on responsibility for one of the largest employers in the local area and work as part of our experienced Executive Management Team. Mount Gambier Prison has approximately 200 employees who work across a range of areas, servicing more than 670 people on site at any time. You will manage a team of 4 direct reports to deliver the day-to-day operation of the Prison, as well as undertaking the duties of the General Manager as required during periods of absence.

The person in the role will be responsible for:

• Operations Management - Effective management and coordination of operations in accordance with the contractual arrangements with our client.
• Strategic Planning - measure business performance against the business plan and ensure all agreed Service Delivery Targets are achieved.
• Budget Management - Meet the financial objectives determines by the General Manager for the business and ensure that accurate records of all income and expenditure are maintained.
• Security Management - Monitor operations and management of our intel unit, and review and advise on strategic planning associated with Intelligence data analysis to ensure operational integrity of the prison.

About Mount Gambier Prison

G4S has operated Mount Gambier Prison (MGP) end-to-end since 1995, as a low to medium security campus style prison. Providing various work and education programs to male prisoners, our aim is to rehabilitate offenders and reduce re-offending. Accommodating 672 prisoners, our team at Mount Gambier Prison delivers safety, security, and respect for all prisoners in custody. Through early 2026, the site will be working through exapnding it's services to support the Department of Correctional Services South Australia by implementing new accomodation areas to support an increased prisoner count.
