As a Special Police Sergeant, you will support and maintain the Constitution and laws of the United States and the State of North Carolina.  The Special Police Sergeant will supervise the Shift Officers and make regular reports to the Deputy Chief or his/her designate.  They will assist in maintaining staff, recruiting and oversee training of new officers.  Responsibilities include ensuring the professional operation, administration, profitability, and quality assurance of uniformed services for a client location.  When needed the Police Sergeant will step in to fulfill the job duties of the Special Police Officers which includes armed foot and/or vehicle patrol (interior and/or exterior), control access and egress, monitor CCTV and alarm systems, compose reports, deter criminal activity and misconduct, oversee arrests and process arrested individuals.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Supervise all Special Police Officers in day to day police tasks
  • Review Officer generated Incident reports
  • Ensure that Officers appear in Court as needed and act as liaison between District Attorney and Court system for Officers
  • Work varying shifts to accomplish tasks as needed
  • Act as liaison in Chain of Command between Officers and Project Manager
  • Review all Officer Uses of Force or Citizen Complaint and forward to Project Manager
  • Assist in filling daily schedule requirements
  • Clerical and administrative duties to including but not limited to filing, data entry and transferring phone calls
  • Assist with evidence collection and storage
  • Assume Command and control of any emergency incident which is outside the scope and abilities of Special Police Officers.
  • When called upon, may assume command of the police department in the absence of the Project Manager until relieved by competent authority

The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid State issued driver’s license

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess demonstrated working knowledge of North Carolina Statues that deal with Law Enforcement and the Company Police Program
  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) consecutive years of civilian law enforcement experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Must possess one or more of the following:
    • Must currently possess a valid North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Division Law Enforcement Officer certification without a break in service more than one (1) year
    • Must have possessed within the last 2½  years, a valid North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Division Law Enforcement Officer certification

  • Must be at least 21 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must be able to successfully pass the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission firearms training program with a minimum score of at least 70%
  • Must be able to successfully pass the North Carolina Company Police test with a minimum score of at least 80%
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Must be able to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:         Inside and outside; some exposure to extreme temperatures is expected

Major activity:        Supervising Special Police Officers in day to day operations and working as support staff for commanding officers

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:     Limited, to include some standing, bending, limited stretching and reaching.
