Gatwick Pre-Departure Accommodation - G4S

£28,000.00 per anum plus £3000 on call allowance

Full Time - 40 hours per week 

Gatwick PDA is run by several agencies. Immigration Enforcement has overall responsibility, with G4S providing security services and facilities management, and under a separate arrangement, providing welfare and social care services to the families.

If families fail to co-operate with other options to leave the UK, such as the offer of assisted voluntary return, they could be required to stay in ‘pre-departure’ accommodation as a last resort. This has been designed as a secure facility which respects the privacy and independence of children and their families.

As part of our continuing development, we’re now looking for confident and approachable team players who are committed to providing a high quality service for the people in our care. If you looking for a new and fresh challenge and need to consolidate your training as a newly qualified social worker or need a different challenge as an experienced social worker, this opportunity would be ideal. There will be opportunities to complete your AYE requirements, CPD and gain further qualifications. Currently the team are working towards qualifications in CBT skills.

The successful candidate will be required to manage a team of project workers in the Gatwick Pre Departure Accommodation & Welfare Service team, ensuring effective service delivery and welfare standards are achieved and maintained.

The PDA is a unique project and the only one of its kind in the U.K. Gatwick pre-departure accommodation (PDA), opened in June 2017 and can accommodate up to 2 families at a time in self-contained apartments, with a range of activities provided by G4S Welfare Services.

Families will only be referred to Gatwick PDA based on advice of the family returns panel, an independent body of child welfare experts, and will stay for no more than 72 hours before their departure from the UK. In exceptional circumstances, with ministerial authority, this may be extended to 1 week.

Gatwick PDA Welfare Team takes the lead on Safeguarding at the facility and our aim and objectives are to provide a package of care and welfare in partnership with other agencies to support families and children. We work closely with West Sussex Safeguarding Children’s Board, who chairs our external Safeguarding Meetings. The team carries the caseload and we have no individual caseloads.

The PDA provides a 24 hour service and that means working to a shift pattern. This working pattern is flexible (to a certain extent) when families are not in resident.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the provision of high quality standards of care within the PDA in line with contract, legislation, regulations and the inspection framework.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of both adults and children, in support of child protection procedures and best practice. Implementing the ‘Working Together to safeguard Children’ (Children’s Act 1989)
  • Plan and prepare for family arrivals and departures in line with contractual requirements and best practice. If a family is released from the PDA, the welfare team will return them to their home address ensuring their property is fit for purpose and refer to support agencies in the community
  • Liaise with external bodies, including Social Services, Hibiscus Initiatives (Charity that provides support with International Resettlement.) and IMB- Independent Monitoring Board. Maintaining good working relationships to ensure the co-ordination and implementation of relevant initiatives, activities and best practice.
  • Assist in the promotion of a positive Health & Safety culture to achieve and maintain the appropriate internal and external Health & Safety accreditations
  • Supervise a team to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures and contractual requirements are met.
  • Manage resource on a day to day basis to ensure contract compliance and service delivery standards are met and maintained
  • Work collaboratively towards a culture of openness, care and a safe environment where families and employees are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Liaise with delivery partners to continuously improve service delivery

 


The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills: 

  • Social Work qualification
  • Understanding and working with the legislative framework and contractual requirements in respect of childcare. (Children’s Act 1989)
  • Experience within a Care, Welfare or residential setting
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Gmail & Calendar
  • Line management experience

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of project/ work planning, monitoring and reviewing
  • Ability to speak a second language
  • Experience and qualifications in childcare, teaching or related professions -Level 3Diploma in Children & Young Peoples Workforce
