A brand new contract, large scale employment opportunities; HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough will set a new standard for new build prisons of the future, using forward-thinking design and technology. The Prison will be the UK’s first purpose-built, new resettlement Prison. With the expected opening in early 2022, a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future; HMP Five Wells will be an integral part of the local community.

G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.

We are now looking for a Social Care Worker to join the Safety Function at HMP Five Wells. To succeed in this role, you will be a dynamic and engaging individual, who shares our ethics and values. You must be able to deliver an exceptional service and can be flexible in working within a fast paced environment. You will also need to have excellent communication skills, support, nurture and develop all of our prisoners at HMP Five Wells through providing a safe environment. Experience is desired but not essential, G4S will support and fund you in the successful completion of the Social Worker Degree Apprenticeship

Adult social care is all about providing personal and practical support to help people live their lives. It's about supporting them to maintain their independence, dignity and control and this is what we want the successful candidate to deliver.

As the Social Care Worker you will aim to improve resident’s well-being by helping with social and physical needs to ensure they are safe and supported whilst at HMP Five Wells, to create as normalised environment as possible to mirror life in the community outside of custody. Also to ensure measures are put in place so that prisoners who are in need of social support at any level do not miss out on other opportunities due to these extra needs and are in fact empowered to progress and succeed.

The Ideal Candidate:

Another key responsibility for the successful candidate for this role is to ensure we have a team of prisoners in HMP Five Wells who are trained to a high standard as carers. As the Social Care Worker your role will be to manage the recruitment process for this as well as ensuring all training is given and that you are then there to support the individuals in offering the highest care and support to those in our care in need of social care.  You will be supported in this by our Safer Custody Manager.

 You will also ensure relationships are built with outside agencies, to ensure that upon their release their needs are met with regards to Social Care this could mean regular contact with councils, adult social care and care agencies prior to release.

You will also need to attend Safety meetings to discuss or raise any concerns about prisoners and what measures are being put into place to support them or any extra help that may be needed.

Initially, you will support the mobilisation of the Prison and the Safety Function, then continue to build on the mobilisation success into operational business as usual, when the Prison opens in February 202

It’s key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios within the prison. You will be supported by an enthusiastic and committed team at HMP Five Wells.
