Role Responsibility:

G4S Health Services has been one of the leading providers to all justice health environments since 2005. Working across Secure, Custody and Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC) across the UK, we provide primary care and forensic healthcare to a wide range of patients.

HMP Altcourse is a Category B local prison receiving sentenced and remand young offender and adult male prisoners from the courts in Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales. The prison can accommodate 1,324 prisoners in safe custody. 

At HMP Altcourse we are committed to providing the highest standards of healthcare to prisoners in our care. Our healthcare team is staffed 24 hours a day and is made up of qualified Nurses and Health Care Assistants.

All our employees are selected and trained to respect the human rights and needs of detainees or prisoners. All staff are security vetted and provided with thorough induction training. 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for nurses with any level of nursing experience to work as an SMS Senior Nurse at HMP Altcourse. This is an ideal opportunity for nurses who are seeking to broaden their range of skills and knowledge in caring for people detained in a prison as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will work collaboratively with other service provider partners to provide high quality patient care.

Job Outline: 

To ensure the provision of the highest level of nursing service that meets the physical and mental health needs of residents. Ensuring professional contractual and company requirements at delivered at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver care pathways.
  • Carry out assessments of residents to identify physical and mental health needs and determine the appropriate level of intervention and any unmet needs.
  • Ensure a professional service is delivered in line with contractual and company standards, including security instructions.
  • Implements a positive health, safety and infection control culture to maintain a safe environment for all stakeholders.
  • Facilitates effective communication and team working between staff of all disciplines to minimize risk.
  • Champions equality operating within the equality and diversity framework ensuring all staff and patients receive equal treatment at all times
  • To maintain confidentiality, adhering to data protection and maintaining Caldicott Guidelines at all times.
  • Ensures all staff understand company policies and procedures , deliver contractual obligations, quality audits and compliance to areas of responsibilities
  • Ensure you and other staff complete relevant documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Operate in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and G4S policies and procedures, adhering to legislation and best practice at all times.
  • Able to control, coordinate and motivate the clinical team on a day to day basis providing effective operational management.
  • Management supervision of junior nursing staff.
  • Coach staff to deliver continuous improvements on an individual and team basis to ensure the highest standards of service are delivered at all times. Identify any areas of concern and report as appropriate.
  • Carry out bi annual Employee Development Reviews (EDR) for direct reports supporting staff with their own development.
  • Participate in the selection, training and development of healthcare professionals and other related staff, in conjunction with appropriate others.
  • Undertake the role of clinical supervisor and participate in clinical supervision.
  • To support innovation and training within healthcare services.
  • Provide professional advice and support to allied health professionals and non-clinical staff to ensure the effective health and social care of residents in line with legislation and current best practice.
  • Operate in accordance with G4S company values, ensuring ethical and professional standards are maintained at all times.
  • Build good relationships with key stakeholders, including external agencies, to ensure the delivery of an effective and appropriate healthcare service.
  • Deputise for Line Manager and attend quarterly Partnership Board meetings (comprising customer / key stakeholders in the healthcare service), producing and presenting agreed reports.
  • Supporting the Line Manager in monitoring and evaluating management information.
  • Under the supervision of Line Manager work with the health and safety team to assist in the maintenance of nationally recognised audits.
  • Seeks feedback and invests time in own development appropriate to the role.
  • Assist in carrying out investigations and disciplinary hearings as agreed with your Line Manager.
  • Carry out any reasonable request from your Line Manager.
