The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the client site during their shift. The Shift Supervisor leads, coaches and develops a team of security officers. The Supervisor acts as the incident leader for most business disruptions and crisis incidents and supports leadership during the activation of escalated incidents. The Supervisor monitors alarm response and incident reports to ensure an appropriate level of service. When necessary, the Supervisor will need to demonstrate the ability to monitor cameras and alarms, dispatch associated calls via telephone and radio, and provide general assistance to both employees and guests. The Supervisor partners with site leadership and employees to support any operational issues and prepare for potential incidents.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Regularly supervise a team of Security Officers during their shift; assign tasks to employees
  • Provide assistance to management with the interviewing, selecting, and placement of new employees
  • Conduct training and exercises as necessary for Security Officers to improve on client protocols,
  • Oversee the daily operations of the client site. This includes, but is not limited to the following: ensuring the Security Officer team is aware of the daily activities/schedule, addressing scheduling concerns/gaps, approving reports, and briefing leadership on incidents - potential or realized
  • The Supervisor will act as the leader of the Security Officer response for business disruptions and crisis management 
  • Assist management with the completion of performance appraisals, handling employee grievances or complaints and disciplining employees after consultation with management
  • The Supervisor will fulfill the role of a Security Officer as needed, which includes but is not limited to answering routine and emergency calls, monitoring alarms and video equipment including fire alarms, door alarms, and duress alarms
  • Maintain various records of communications and events 

The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess the ability to meet and maintain any applicable state licensing requirements

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess a minimum of six (6) months of transit security experience

  • Must possess one or more of the following:
    • Associate’s degree or higher
    • Service in the active military, military reserves or National Guard
    • Service in auxiliary police or police cadets
    • Minimum of one year verifiable and successful security experience

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and/or Google Applications

  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
  • Attention to detail


  • Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must possess a proven ability to influence key business partners
  • Must possess the ability to build strategic vision and drive organizational change
  • Must possess advanced computer skills and proficiency
  • Must possess strong inter-personal and networking skills with a strong ability to work in a team environment
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task, discerns patterns in details
  • Must possess excellent verbal/writing skills
  • Must possess the ability  to think through problems for logical solutions, and remain calm and professional under stress
  • Must possess the ability to speak clearly, give direction, and provide guidance to employees and security staff during emergencies
  • Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of leadership
  • Must not use illegal drugs. Must be able to pass a drug test with negative results (except when undergoing documented medical treatment).
  • Must submit to an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks if applicable
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:  Indoor with minimal to no exposure to extreme temperatures

Major activity:  Sitting, standing, speaking listening, observing

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:  Sitting, and standing.  Minimal to no stooping or kneeling.
