Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

As a Desk Officer, you will maintain access control, property removal control, and key control. You will serve as communications center for the described location's security operations, and maintain constant monitoring of the alarm system. The Desk Officer and Assistant Desk Officer also are in charge of running the Lift-net elevator computer. You will serve as senior Desk Officer when the Assistant Desk Officer is also on duty. In addition, you will be responsible for the operations of the other security officers working within the building. Tour officers, relief officers, and dock officers should report to the desk officer on situations and issues that are occurring in the building. The desk officer will then provide the appropriate communications to the client and/or supervisor as needed. The desk and the surrounding lobby areas should be monitored continually for suspicious activity and potential threats to access violations. Officers are expected to maintain control of this environment during an incident. You must not permit an incident to escalate or involve other contractors working in the building. All incidents should be controlled and resolved as soon as possible.

 

Additional responsibilities:
  • Full access control
  • Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards
  • Sound alarms contact direct supervisor in cases of emergencies or presence of unauthorized persons
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking or carrying forbidden articles
  • Permit authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits
  • Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensure that authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. Maintain written logs as required by the post
  • Provide assistance to customers, employees and visitors in a courteous and professional manner
  • Multi computer use and functions of computers, phone systems, alarm systems, turn styles, handheld radios

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

So what does it take to qualify for this great opportunity? We're looking for professional detail-oriented individuals with a talent for effectively assessing/evaluating situations and identifying critical issues.

Here's the minimum you'll need to be a successful Desk Officer:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass any State-required training or other qualifications for licensing

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • You will also need to possess one or more of the following:
    • Associate's degree or higher in any discipline
    • Service in the active duty military, military reserves or National Guard
    • Service in auxiliary police or police cadets
    • Meaningful and verifiable work history
    • Minimum of one year verifiable and successful security experience

Skills Required

You will need the following skills to be a successful Desk Officer:
  • Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
  • Attention to detail

Other Requirements

  • You must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the State, if higher
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • You must be able to work flexible schedules and respond to work assignments with little to no advance notice

Finally, here's what we'll need from you upon job offer:

  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Ability to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military
  • Ability to pass the following:
    • MMPI - Psychological testing, if armed or otherwise required
    • Physical exam, if armed or required by client contract

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment: Indoor and outdoor, temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold and heat

Major activity: Walking, standing, speaking, listening, observing

Physical efforts to carry out job duties: Standing, walking, and sitting. Minimal to no stooping or kneeling.
