Type 2 - Plain Clothes Security Guard Services

Job Introduction:

This position description assumes that the individual has satisfied all basic requirements for employment by G4S, including, but not limited to: security licence validation and criminal police information check as applicable (CPIC), credit reference(if applicable), background check, minimum age, and minimum education (high school diploma or foreign equivalency, or earned GED).  Additionally, this job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.  The individual in this position is required to follow any other instructions and perform any other duties requested by this position’s management.

At G4S we have partnered with many major companies to secure office buildings, commercial properties, warehouses, distribution centers, hospitals, condominiums and residential sites. We are also proud to partner with various government organizations in securing their facilities. 


Currently, we are seeking Full Time Security Guards for a Provincial Retail contract. This position will be situated mainly in the specified Region.This position will be responsible for multiple locations and upon short notice, be able to redeploy to other defined areas of the Region to which they are assigned.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Protect people, property and assets

  • Report and action any and all suspicious and/or criminal activities that take place on-site during shifts as per G4S Canada training and policies.

  • Complete shift logs and incident reports accurately. Communicate findings with those who need to be made aware.

  • Identify and apprehend shoplifters – process arrested persons and provide a duty of care to all persons taken into custody

  • Identify and deter potential shoplifters as required

  • Preserve all related evidence including the preservation of video evidence

  • Liaise with local police as required

  • Utilize security equipment/systems, camera recording systems, computers and radios as required

  • Capable of changing from plain clothes to uniformed or vice versa at short notice if needed

  • Assist with potential emergency situations or disasters, such as accidents, fire, flooding etc.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Valid Dual Licence (Ontario Security Guard Licence and Private Investigators Licence)

  • Emergency First Aid / CPR 

  • minimum two (2) years of related work experience preferably in a retail setting working in plain clothes with the primary focus on identifying and apprehending shoplifters or;

have one (1) year retail security working in plain clothes together with at least one (1) or more years police experience in a Canadian setting

Able to pass required G4S Training Courses

Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Meticulous record keeping, report writing and observation skills

  • Exceptional judgement, common sense and decision-making ability

  • Ability to operate security equipment/systems, camera recording systems, computers and radios (including but not limited to CCTV systems and Digital Video Recorder/Network Video Recorder (“DVR/NVR”))

  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check and/or obtain security clearances as required by the client/employer

  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation including but not limited to the Criminal Code of Canada, Charter of Rights and Freedoms

  • AODA, WHMIS, Health and Safety Trainings (to be provided by G4S Canada)

  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Based on Federal / Provincial law, or client mandates, G4S may be required to determine COVID-19 vaccine status of its employees assigned to a specific contract or working in a specific geographical area.
