Security Guard


Job Introduction:

This position description assumes that the individual has satisfied all basic requirements for employment by G4S Secure Solutions (Canada) Ltd., including, but not limited to: security licence validation and criminal police information check as applicable (CPIC), credit reference(if applicable), background check, minimum age, and minimum education (high school diploma or foreign equivalency, or earned GED).  Additionally, this job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.  The individual in this position is required to follow any other instructions and perform any other duties requested by this position’s management.

Role Responsibility:

  • Reports directly to the Security Shift Supervisor.
  • Excellent customer service etiquette is required
  • Patrols interior and exterior of the entire facility
  • Main dispatch for calls, including employee call-in system and emergency calls
  • Pool Vehicle issuance and booking, including scheduling maintenance as required
  • Deliver emergency messages to employees as required
  • Main dispatch for internal and external emergency services
  • Responsible for enforcing visitor protocol.
  • Utilize a CCTV system
  • Secure documents for pick up as required
  • Notify Insurance Underwriters and AHJ of fire system impairments as required
  • Contact plant individuals as per the ERP as required
  • Assist in coordinating transportation for employees who require assistance
  • Verifying access permissions for all people attending the site, prior to authorizing access
  • Issuing safety cards and or other required documents
  • Respond to the simplex fire system and dispatch accordingly
  • Document filing as required
  • Receive packages from delivery companies as required
  • Lost and found responsibility
  • Incident Report writing and keep a daily activity log
  • Escort visitors when required
  • Issuing and maintaining working alone equipment
  • Issue pre-authorized keys and other documents as required
  • Fuel Vehicles as required
  • Atmospheric Monitoring for Confined Space Entry Permits or as required
  • Issuance of Hot Work Permits as required
  • Lock Removal
  • Perform fire watch duties as required
  • Issue Parking Violations as required
  • Monthly fence and lighting audits
  • Directing traffic
  • Assist with special events
  • Relieve other guards for breaks
  • Train new and part-time guards as required
  • Additional duties as directed by Security Shift Supervisor, Security and Fire Chief and or Client Contact


The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Employment Requirements:

  • Be able to read, write and speak in English and possess reading, writing and comprehension skills sufficient to compose clear and concise written reports and read and understand rules, regulations, policies and similar instructions; 
  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and have completed post-secondary education in security, policing or a related field
  • Have work experience in security, policing or a related field;
  • Possess a valid security guard license;
  • Possess a first aid/CPR certification 
  • Be poised, tactful and diplomatic and have the ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment under stress and in emergency situations;
  • Due to the nature of work being performed, must be in the good physical condition and able to perform the Services
  • Have proficiency of various computer applications including Microsoft programs
  • Have working knowledge of access control, CCTV and life safety systems
  • Must hold a valid “G class” Ontario Driver's license.
  • Must be able/willing to be utilized in all other positions including Shift Supervisor, Security Guard and Truck Gate guard as needed
