With the expected opening in early 2022, a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future; HMP Five Wells will be an integral part of the local community.

G4S Custody & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.

We are now looking for a Safer Custody Hub Manager, to join the Safety Function at HMP Five Wells.  To succeed in this role, you will be a dynamic and engaging individual, who shares our ethics and values. You must deliver an exceptional service and can be flexible in working within a fast paced environment.  You will also need to have excellent communication skills and lead a team of administrative staff who will motivate, support, nurture and develop all of our residents at HMP Five Wells through providing a safe environment.  As the Hub Manager you will  provide management and direction to the safer custody team by producing reports, building informal and formal relationships and effective communication. You will also lead on the Enabling Environment accreditation process for the Building Bridges Unit. You may be deployed to operational duties in rare circumstances. You will produce a monthly Safer Custody Report and disseminate it as required within the establishment, collating feedback, before presenting the report at the monthly Safer Custody Meeting. The report will cover all strands of safer custody to include Self Harm, Violence, Self – isolation, ACCT management etc to meet establishment priorities therefore you must have strong IT skills.

Initially, you will support the mobilisation of the Prison and the Safety Function, then continue to build on the mobilisation success into operational business as usual, when the Prison opens in January 2022.

Reporting to the Safer Custody and Safeguarding Manager, you will manage the provision of Safer Custody for all residents within HMP Five Wells.  You will be expected to take a lead on Safety and Safeguarding issues.

You will also play a pivotal part of the Enhanced Support Teams.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Use information, data and trend analysis to actively ensure all staff in the establishment understand the position of safer custody issues within the establishment
  • Ensure paperwork for all adjudications is correctly completed and logged
  • Line manage Safer Custody Administrators
  • Lead on the Enabling Environment Accreditation for the Building Bridges Unit
  • Responsible for the collation of data relating to Safer Custody
  • Provide advice and guidance to the Safer Custody Managers and Head of Safety on current trends and issues.
  • Produce a monthly Safer Custody Report and disseminate it as required within the establishment, collating feedback, before presenting the report at the monthly Safer Custody Meeting. The report will cover all strands of safer custody to include Self Harm, Violence, Self – isolation, ACCT management etc to meet establishment priorities
  • Brief & Liaise with all functional departments in relation to understanding and supporting Safer Custody objectives
  • Check safer custody information received from all sources, determine level of importance and recommend responses and solutions where necessary
