The Risk and Claims Specialist will administrate and manage the processing of Workers’ Compensation (WC), General Liability (GL), Auto Liability and Property Damage claims under applicable insurance policies, and assists the Third-Party Administrator (TPA), Carrier, and legal team with gathering pertinent claim information. This position has direct contact with the field locations and acts as a resource on all claim related activities.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Assist Third Party Administrator/Field Offices/Corporate in the processing of all claims to include: initial claim reporting,
  • Return-to-Work program, processing Inter Office Billing for modified duty positions, liability and gathering claims information
  • Determine liability; handle the investigation and negotiation of Admitted General Liability and Auto Liability claims.
  • Review and approve interoffice billing from field offices for payment submission to accounting
  • Review settlement documents to ensure proper protection of interest
  • Review all Level Red and Amber incident bulletins and communicate with field and secure evidence for possible litigation and/or reporting of any work-related injuries
  • Provide guidance to field on written policies and procedures
  • Discuss and strategize subrogation opportunities with Gallagher Bassett adjuster and Defense Counsel 
    Management of Monopolistic states based on assigned jurisdictions, monthly claim reports and annual reporting
  • Review, reserve, and settlement requests up to $50k for WC claims and admitted Auto claims
  • Provide weekly report to Claims Manager, summarizing high exposure claims (cumulative & new claims)
  • Liaison between field personnel and corporate office for day to day matters
  • Document reserves approvals for claims and communicate to legal and/or third-party claims administrator (TPA)
  • Act as focal point of contact for field management on claim issues and questions concerning claim submittal, case management, benefits, medical treatment, claims process, etc.
  • Document pertinent claims information and update Risk Management Information System (RMIS)
  • Prepare necessary state filings

The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must be a Licensed Adjuster – All Lines
  • Must possess one or more of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree any field, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience handling/adjusting Casualty and Property claims and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in general liability and worker’s compensation claims
    • Highschool diploma or foreign equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of experience handling/adjusting Casualty and Property claims and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in general liability and worker’s compensation claims

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Work history must demonstrate each of the following:
    • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office applications and Risk Management Information Systems
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to handle multi-state claims
    • Ability to comprehend general liability concepts and workers’ compensation laws
    • Ability to use Lotus Notes

  • Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:  Office; minimum to no exposure to extreme temperatures is expected

Major activity:  Working on PC while sitting, walking, standing, speaking, listening, observing

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:  Limited, to include some standing, bending, limited stretching and reaching
