As the largest private provider of Immigration Services for the UK Border Agency (UKBA), G4S is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for people being detained due to their immigration status. Our Contract locations are situated near Gatwick Airport and can accommodate just under 600 male/female detainees with an ever changing population.
As part of our continuing development, we’re now looking for confident and approachable team players who are committed to providing a high quality service for the people in our care.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a multi-faith Chaplaincy team, providing pastoral and spiritual support to detainees and staff.
- Provide a secure, safe effective residential environment for detainees to ensure that their human rights
- To lead Friday Prayers and provide Islamic Instruction primarily for detainees within the Gatwick IRCs
- To help promote the Islamic faith within the establishment, working closely with other members of the Chaplaincy team, the Diversity team and operational staff to ensure that the spiritual and pastoral needs of the Muslim detainees are met
- To carry out some generic duties within the establishment, in particular visiting detainees in the Care and Separation Unit, those on ACDTs, and detainees on rule 40 and 42 (removed from general association)
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of Islam, preferably holding a recognised qualification in Islamic studies at degree level or equivalent, excellent communication skills and substantial experience of organising and leading Islamic worship and teaching
Experience of working in a custodial environment is desirable but not essential as training will be given.
