Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalize prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimized. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasize the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

We now have an opportunity for a Prison Employment Lead to join our team at HMP Parc.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly formed resettlement function, which aims to deliver improved resettlement outcomes for prisoners at HMP & YOI Parc. Your role within this team will be to develop and grow the network of employment, training and ROTL opportunities available for prisoners from HMP & YOI Parc, enhancing their opportunities for successful resettlement. You will need to be a strong networker, with a good understanding of the employability/welfare to work and labour market environments. We are looking for a candidate who can maximize opportunities for prisoners, identify new partners for us to work with and ensure that we have a constant stream of employment, training and ROTL pathways for prisoners to move into. You will need to be a confident self-starter, good at working intuitively and able to bring people on board to working with people in prison.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and source employment, training and ROTL opportunities with community partners to complement the work of New Futures Network and other employment agencies.            
  • Work in partnership with colleagues to develop a system that identifies work ready prisoners and highlights actions needed to support prisoners to achieve work readiness.
  • Work with prison staff and stakeholders to match work ready candidates to job opportunities brokered on behalf of the prison.
  • Work with the Learning and Skills team to ensure the prison induction process properly:  

(i) Promote employment, education, and skills training opportunities to prisoners upon arrival at the prison 

(ii) Effectively captures information relating to prisoner education, work experience and skills 

(iii). Encourage prisoners to develop personal and social skills that improve employability

  • Manage an Employment Hub which centralizes employment support services within the prison and promotes live vacancies to prison leavers within the resettlement period.
  • Track any vacancies as part of central reporting
  • Champion innovations in employment and industry focused recruitment practices, such as hospitality/construction drives etc.
  • Work in partnership with the Prison’s Strategic Employment Advisory Boards to improve systems that support prisoners to develop employability, ensuring they meet commercial needs/standards of employers.
  • Organize regular opportunities for NFN and other stakeholders to bring employers into the prison and facilitate prisoner forums.
  • Work in partnership with Community Offender Management (COM) to ensure prison leaver information is supplied to relevant agencies post release in order to reduce duplication.
  • Liaise with COM to ensure prison leavers who require further support on release are signposted to Education, Training and Employment CRS who can continue to support them on their journey towards meaningful, sustained employment.


The Ideal Candidate:

Essential:

  • Experience of working in employability services (training, work based learning, welfare to work)
  • Effective communication, negotiation and persuasion skills
  • Strong examples of collaboration
  • Experience of working with and growing a wide network of partners

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in resettlement services in a criminal justice context
  • Experience of working in prison employability services
