Be that person who makes a difference every day
Prison Custody Officers (PCO) are key to the effective running of our prisons and we are looking for people who can fit naturally into this role. We are now starting our 2020 Prison Custody Officer recruitment campaign at HMP Oakwood.
There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ Prison Custody Officer and we encourage applications from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, who can demonstrate the integrity, resilience and strong communications skills needed to thrive in this role. No specific qualifications or relevant experience is required.
The people in your care will have a variety of different needs and it will be your role to ensure those individuals are treated with dignity and respect and helped to find a new way of life whilst maintaining a safe, secure and structured environment.
You will have a number of key responsibilities that assist prisoner’s reform, as well as playing a key role in providing offenders with structure and routine, making sure they get to work in the morning, are actively engaging in education and the prison regime and are secure in their cell in the evening.
The Ideal Candidate:
If you join us, you can be sure that you’ll find a secure, friendly and professional working environment and be given all the support, training and encouragement you need to build and develop a successful career with us.
As part of your new role with us, you will undertake a custodial qualification. The programme runs in parallel with your initial training course and you will be supported through the programme by an experienced Coach, as well as through a mentoring programme and line management support. On completion you will obtain a recognised Custodial Qualification, which will support your role and career development.
Your initial training lasts for 9 weeks, where you will receive comprehensive training , which includes Control & Restraint, First Aid, Interpersonal skills and Health & Safety.
Our benefits are as you would expect from a large global organisation and include a company pension, holiday entitlement, access to High Street Shop benefits, uniform, free parking and access to our on-site gym.
Please note that these vacancies are subject to a 5 year checkable history and the strict vetting standards set by G4S and the Secretary of State for the Home Office and are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 5 years. You will also need to provide full details of your employment and education history for the last 5 years as part of the security screening process for this role.
