As a Police Captain, you will support and maintain the Constitution and laws of the United States and of North Carolina. The Police Captain enforces the criminal laws of North Carolina within the jurisdiction and supervises the sworn officers assigned to their location. Responsibilities include ensuring the professional operation, administration, profitability and quality assurance of uniformed services for a client location. When needed the Police Captain will step in to fulfill the job duties of the Special Police Officers or Security Officers which includes armed foot and/or vehicle patrol (interior and/or exterior), control access and egress, monitor CCTV and alarm systems, compose reports, deter criminal activity and misconduct, oversee arrests and process arrested individuals.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Oversee all aspects of the security function on-site in a diligent manner (staffing, scheduling, and on-site training all G4S Secure Solutions (USA) Inc. personnel assigned to his/her site)
  • Ensure contract required training and screening elements for security personnel have been met
  • Maintain overtime to a level designated by G4S
  • Ensure quality service and contract compliance by regularly inspecting security personnel assigned to the site
  • Perform other operations related functions (e.g., payroll, review and maintain incident reports, issue uniforms, coordinate fleet vehicles, assist in preparation of security surveys and post orders)
  • Make recommendations for positive and negative personnel actions for those under his/her direct supervision
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities; maintain written logs as required by the post
  • Respond to client requests
  • Ensure that tasks are completed on time; handle multiple demands for commitment of time, energy, and resources
  • Mediate conflict with tact and diplomacy; interpret behavior and emotional patterns in individuals and groups to make sound judgment in the line of duty
  • Conduct detailed investigations of citizen complaints
  • Interpret rules and regulations
  • Research, investigate, and compile information; formulate relevant questions and develop ways to supply and clarify answers
  • Listen actively and attentively, communicate facts and ideas clearly both orally or in writing


The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission Law Enforcement Officer certification
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, Data and Crime Information (DCI) Certification through the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI)
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a current NC Automated Warrant Repository (NCAWARE) access credential

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess demonstrated working knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes that deal with Law and Company Police Program
  • Must possess a minimum of 10 years of civilian law enforcement experience
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years of experience as a certified North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years of law enforcement experience in a supervisor/management capacity
  • Must possess one or more of the following:
    • Currently Certified (General or Probationary) as a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer
    • Possess a North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate (received less than 9 months ago)
    • Graduate of a police academy other than North Carolina and have been a full time police officer for at least the last 2 years and have not been out of law enforcement for more than 6 months
    • Prior Certified North Carolina Law Enforcement Officers who have not been out of Law Enforcement more than 2 .5 years

  • Must be at least 21 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Must be able to successfully complete all training required for the position
  • Must be able to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public
  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Environment: Indoor and outdoor, temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold and heat

Major activity: Walking, standing, speaking, listening, observing, traveling

Physical efforts to carry out job duties: Standing, walking, and sitting. Minimal to no stooping or kneeling.
