The Patient Support Staff Dispatch Operator serves as the customer support link between our customers, our local offices, and our Patient Support Staff. This position will determine the proper response to activations as well as determine if systems are operating correctly. Dispatchers must be able to multi-task and perform computer data entry while callers are on the phone or radio.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Process calls received on all designated telephone lines; answering phones; operate IP based telephone system
  • Accurately record information provided by callers, question them to determine location and nature of the problem and accurately classify as an emergency or non-emergent call once classified also prioritizing them as directed in the standard operating procedures
  • Simultaneously perform various tasks while in reception of multiple audio and visual sources (channels, talk groups, monitors, etc.) while maintain a professional voice tone during all communication
  • Immediately respond to requests for back up units and dispatch them according to standard protocol
  • Maintains accurate daily activity reports as required and document appropriate narrative data for dispatch operating procedures and input into
  • Call logging; data entry in Labor Scheduling
  • Strategic Accounts support; managing service requests
  • Follow proper notification/escalation procedures; receive and disseminate additional requests for information and resources
  • Operations support; routing of call information to account managers and field supervisors
  • Disseminate to approved inside and / or outside agencies pertinent information via telephone, radio, computer, or other appropriate communication devices

The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass any State-required training or other qualifications for licensing

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess one or more of the following:
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a call center, transportation route management ,staff management, command/control center, or a related field
    • Associate’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Business Administration combined with a minimum of two (2) years of work experience with direct customer interaction

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
  • Attention to detail


  • Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must have demonstrated ability to manage schedules, telephone equipment and computer systems and possess strong Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) skills
  • Must be able to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • Subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:  Office; minimal to no exposure to extreme temperatures is anticipated

Major activity:  Working on PC and using telephone while sitting

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:  Limited, to include some standing, bending, and limited stretching and reaching
