Operational Support Officer (Security Officer)


£22,993.61 per annum

Permanent, Full Time – 39 hours per week, with various shifts

A brand new contract, large scale employment opportunities; HMP Five Wells in Wellingborough will set a new standard for newly built prisons of the future, using forward-thinking design and technology.  After opening in early 2022 the Prison is the UK’s first purpose-built, resettlement Prison and will be an integral part of the local community.


G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and residents feel safe.


The Operational Support Officer is an integral part of the security of the prison and we are looking to recruit a diverse range of people from all different backgrounds. It is not a requirement for you to come from a security background, as training will be given.


The areas that the Operational Support Officer will cover:


Control Room

Operating the radio system for the whole prison whilst monitoring the CCTV across the establishment. Coordinating response to alarms that may be activated within the establishment and responding appropriately to requests over the radio or phone. 


Gate Lodge/vehicle lock

Attending to staff and official visitors coming into the establishment in a professional and courteous manner. Searching all vehicles coming in and out of the establishment, escorting vehicles and carrying out internal/external patrols of the establishment. 



Meet and greet visitors and official visitors who are entering the establishment to see residents. Searching visitors and property, using the X-ray machine and other technical equipment as and when required to ensure that no contraband enters the premises.

  • Experience in dealing with members of the public in a professional and friendly manner
