As a Nuclear Security Officer, you will shall be armed, uniformed members of the security organization, under the operational control of the CAS/SAS Operator (CSO) as directed by the Security Shift Supervisor. They shall provide physical protection of nuclear power generating facilities against intrusion and acts of sabotage. This position will conduct armed stationary, foot and/or vehicle patrol (interior and/or exterior), control access and/or egress of personnel, materials, and vehicles, and monitor CCTV, plant surveillance equipment and alarm systems as assigned.  The Nuclear Security Officer will compose reports and/or written statements, deter criminal activity, misconduct, and safety violations, and perform other duties as specified in nuclear training and qualification plan and post orders. This position ensures all duties are carried out with safety as the number one priority and fosters and models a healthy Safety Conscious Work Environment (SCWE).

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Maintain compliance with all site policies, procedures, and directives
  • Assess alarms, investigate, and report suspicious activities and/or circumstances
  • Identify safety and/or fire hazards and make recommendations for improvement
  • Report degradation, deficiencies, and accidents in accordance with current procedures and take appropriate corrective actions as directed by Security force Supervision
  • Control access of personnel, vehicles, and materials into the protected area and maintain appropriate log
  • Perform protected area, vital area, and fire watch patrols and maintain appropriate logs
  • Perform compensatory postings and escort duties as directed by Security Force Supervision and in accordance with current procedures and directives
  • Perform surveillance tests and inspections and test alarm systems such as metal detectors, explosive detectors, x-ray machines, perimeter alarms, protected and vital area alarms, and radiological fire barrier alarms and maintain appropriate logs
  • Respond to contingency events in accordance with appropriate procedures and as directed by Security Force Supervision
  • Participate in security drills, practical exercises, and required training programs as directed
  • Maintain periodic qualification of academic requirements including (Radiation protection, Access authorization, Emergency plan, etc.)
  • Maintain periodic qualification of armed response, physical fitness, and weapon requirements
  • Adhere to regulatory fatigue orders and work hours tracking requirements
  • Ensure house-keeping expectations are met
  • Maintain all required qualifications for site access

The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to pass any State-required training or other qualifications for licensing

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Work history must demonstrate an ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public

  • Must be at least 21 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must be able to operate a radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors and surveillance equipment
  • Must be willing and able to work scheduled twelve-hour shifts
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Must not use illegal drugs and be able to pass a drug and alcohol test with negative results
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if you were in the military
  • Must be able to successfully complete all training required for the position
  • You will need to submit to the following, post-offer in accordance with the code of federal regulations for nuclear security assignment (10CFR, Appendix B):
    • MMPI – Psychological testing
    • Fitness-for-Duty (FFD) testing to include alcohol Breathalyzer testing and urine drug screen
    • Physical Exams, including vision and hearing, in accordance with nuclear regulatory requirements and site training and qualification plan
    • Nuclear site-specific training and testing providing general knowledge of nuclear power generation science and principles, plant rules and regulations, communications, and access
  • Must not use illegal drugs. Must be able to pass a drug test with negative results (except when undergoing documented medical treatment).
  • Must submit to an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks if applicable
