At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody. 

 

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

 

We are looking for an experienced MMPR Coordinator to join our team at Oakhill Secure Training Centre. They will be required to oversee the safe and effective delivery and continued implementation of MMPR within the secure establishment. With at least 12 months experience of delivering MMPR they will be able to communicate effectively and have good presentation skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Daily Quality Assurance of all incidents including the use of direct observation, CCTV footage and body worn camera footage and written Use of Force reports
  • Collate and prepare all information necessary for the Restraint Minimisation Meeting and to present each incident to the multi-disciplinary panel.
  • Completion of relevant documents such as the QA tracker, UoF Log and DD Occurrence logs
  • Deliver MMPR training directly to operational staff, including roll out, refresher and ITC training, covering the physical techniques, medical advice and aspects of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
  • To complete and review individual staff learning outcomes/plans, to complete upskills with staff on site and continuously assess staff competency levels, identify trends and implement action plans for the MMPR team to outreach to staff following this.
  • To complete and review all Restraint Handling Plans and communicate these with staff.
  • Monitor the application of restraint holds during incidents of force being applied to children and coach staff.
  • To know and follow the reporting process of Serious Injury and Warning Sign incidents and be responsible for recommendations from the MMPR National Team following their review of the incidents.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Oakhill STC Behaviour Management Strategy and Enhanced Support Services model, driving the principles forward through training and staff coaching.
  • Play a pivotal role in staff development from a MMPR perspective, in line with the Safety Team’s departmental action plan. 
  • To lead on planned interventions, including writing intervention and surrender plans, use of handcuffs and managing complex cases in conjunction with other departments in relation to MMPR and behaviour management.
  • A thorough understanding of local safeguarding policies and procedures and knowledge of the Child Protection referral process and our interaction with external parties such as LADO.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

Essential Skills

  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to competently collate and analyse data and information
  • Good IT and report writing skills.

 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of working within a secure environment
  • Formal child care, social work or management qualification
  • Experience in restraint / safeguarding training
  • Experience of quality assurance
