The Manager, Patent Enforcement role works within Global Security’s Global Intelligence and Analytics team to conduct comprehensive all-source collection, analysis and investigation of possible patent infringement. This position is responsible for overseeing a team of Investigators to gather and analyze information from a variety of sources to determine significance and promptly inform senior management to create decision advantage, while strictly adhering to established analytic standards of being objective, accurate, timely, relevant and actionable.

Assignments are self-initiated or derived from select assignments as set forth by Global Security Management, Corporate Counsel or Corporate HR. The Manager, Patent Enforcement determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results utilizing intelligence driven investigative methodology, analysis, and/or remediation alternatives, while interacting with HR, the business unit, members of the public and/or outside counsel. This position maintains the analytical and technical aspects of security investigative processes and systems, as well as exercises investigative discretion within defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion to produce results. Investigative latitude is governed under the program as set forth by the Chief Security Officer. This position consults regularly with regional offices and legal counsel.

The Manager, Patent Enforcement anticipates and proposes solutions to business and security challenges, determining projects and suggesting modifications as appropriate to investigative standards and protocols. This position will conduct assessments to ensure investigative compliance with corporate policies and adherence to industry best practices and will oversee the planning and conducting of extremely sensitive and complex investigations with briefs to senior management on status.

Role Responsibility:

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Manage and oversee all-sources of collection and research, analytics, evaluations, and integrate data from multiple sources, identify intelligence gaps, and specify collection requirements to produce assessments and recommendations
  • Development and implementation of investigative training programs; ensure the proper new hire training of direct reports, and conduct follow-up training as needed
  • Engaging with personnel (internal and external clients) in a professional and tactful manner; provide leadership and work daily with personnel across the client enterprise
  • General Human Resources management; participate in selection and placement, conduct performance reviews, manage attendance, and conflict resolution; scheduling; as required
  • Identify, develop, implement, and maintain processes and strategies across operating units; respond to incidents, limit exposure to regulatory compliance and reduce the client’s financial loss
  • Extract essential information and analysis from a variety of sources and synthesize the information into actionable reports accuracy, research, investigative sufficiency, and professional quality; edit and correct, as necessary and disseminate to decision makers
  • Develop collaborative relationships; provide expertise, technical guidance, and training 
  • Responding to security incidents and interceding when necessary to protect the client from harm or embarrassment
  • Manage and oversee all-sources of collection and research, analytics, evaluations, and integrate data from multiple sources, identify intelligence gaps, and specify collection requirements to produce assessments and recommendations
  • Engaging with personnel (internal and external clients) in a professional and tactful manner; provide leadership and work daily with personnel across the client enterprise

The Ideal Candidate:

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in intelligence studies, national security, political science, international affairs, criminology, or a related field

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience with a major law enforcement, intelligence, public service or private sector security organization
  • Work history must include:
    • Experience in conducting interviews and leading multiple complex investigations with exposure to the criminal judicial system
    • Experience testifying in a court of law
    • Participation in developing, implementing, and/or managing large-scale, high profile corporate investigative programs
    • Experience and exposure to extensive international investigations

  • Must be at least 18 years old or the minimum age required by the state, if higher
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the United States
  • Must not use illegal drugs. Must be able to pass a drug test with negative results (except when undergoing documented medical treatment).
  • Must submit to an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicle and credit checks if applicable
  • Must be able to provide, upon job offer, a DD214 discharge document with discharge status indicated, if prior military

Physical Requirements and Environment

Environment:  Indoor; office environment; minimal to no exposure to extreme temperatures is expected

Major activity:  Sitting while working on a computer; telephone use

Physical efforts to carry out job duties:  Standing, walking, and sitting. Minimal to no stooping or kneeling.
