Opportunity: Legal Assistant
Location: Sutton, Surrey
Fixed Term Contract: 12 Months (Maternity Cover) 
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000

This is working within the Commercial Contracts team so it is a requirement  The Legal Assistant must have a Law degree or other law related qualification (e.g. CILEx) and possess the ability to 'hit the ground running' with a minimum of two years previous experience in a similar commercial contracts role.

Your core role as part of a team (1 to 5 people) will be to support the Head of Legal, Contracts in ensuring that the G4S Secure Solutions (UK&I) business unit as a whole has the right contractual relationships in place for all the services that it provides and operates within the parameters of the G4S Legal Risk Management Policy for the UK&I Secure Solutions Region.
  • Reviewing and checking contracts for signature by the authorised signatory of the relevant legal entity to ensure they reflect the final agreed version of the contract and where required completing a contract report summary
  • Providing assistance with adhoc legal projects
  • Ensuring that the legal database Serengeti is maintained and updated regularly.
  • Reviewing, drafting or redrafting (if required):customer proposed changes to G4S standard terms and conditions.
  • The commercial and legal implications of customer proposed changes or customer terms and conditions
  • Where required discuss and negotiate proposed changes with customer;
  • Provide assistance in ensuring the company has the proper contractual relationships in place for all of the business that it performs.
  • Ensure that relevant internal approvals are obtained through the correct channels/processes
  • If required provide advice and guidance to the business as to G4S rights and obligations under the terms of existing contracts.

The Ideal Candidate


  • Law degree or other law related qualifications (e.g. CILEX)
  • Knowledge and understanding of contract and commercial law
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to draft
  • Ability to plan and organise
  • Experience – at least 2 years in a similar role
  • 5 years checkable work history
  • Unrestricted right to work in the UK/EU
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Financial and commercial awareness
  • Experience of working within an environment of outsourcing services
